Finally, an exhaust...

I put on the Mazdaspeed axle back muffler today. When I first started the car up, I wasn't too impressed with the sound aroudn 3K....sounded like a fart pipe. After it warmed up, it sounded a little better. I guess the 1.6's engine note isn't as nice as the 1.8 and 2.0.

Also got my rear bumper replaced, and the whole rear quarter has a new paint job from when some ******* rear ended me last November.

Hey Clint,
looks great, awsome finish on the body
couldn't even tell the difference

Like the mazdaspeed exhast,
I bet it sounds better than many
fart pipes out there, saw it
on ZoomZoomH car, looks neat

Do you feel any performance gain?
just wondering you know?
Is there any way you could lift it up
so the end of the exhast would be closer to the
bumper?
Thanks

As far as a performance gain, not really noticeable. There's probably 3-4 hp gain if that, but unless I dyno it I wouldn't be able to tell.

The muffler hangs down from two of the rubber supports underneath the body...unless you modify those somehow then maybe you can raise it up some. I don't see how though. I think the tip would look good with the MP3 rear skirt in place.

That will come someday, when I have enough dough to make it happen, heh heh.

I think it sounds nice at idle and at high rpm..but it hits 3K omfg can you say fart can? I'll record the exhaust and post it up here. I don't think anyone's heard this exhaust w/ the 1.6 before.

Do you need any modification on the exhaust to make it fit? Because I read in the past that the Mazda exhaust won't fit our 1.6L engine...

Nope, it fits perfectly.

I'm getting sound clips of the exhaust tomorrow.

Sound Clip

Here's a crappy quality sound clip of the car accelerating. This is with the windows up, mic attatched to passenger seat headrest.

that doesn't sound THAT bad, maybe not as low and boomy as the FS engines, but definitely not Honda engine buzzy.

more like a performance-tuned, small-displacement sound

Overall it doesn't sound too bad; I love the way it sounds at idle and high rpm. I'm gonna record a clip of the engine at 3K...I can't stand the sound it makes there

Hey, It looks good. Now.... for 2 weekends coming up, well... 3. I can't wait to see it in person

Like Isaid, .wav and sound files don't do justice with a car note.... I'm sure it sounds great. You need to get your auto < manual conversion. Now, that'll kick some ***!
