Guys...that is a VW Lupo. European markey only. It's comparable to the GTI in dimension.

It just one of those super compacts, kinda like the Mercedes Avante Garde, Mini Cooper...no power but excellent handling. They actually race these things iin their own cup series.

You are correct...they are a bit smaller....I didn't have any of the Dimensions handy but tried to use a car that gave an idea of it's size..thought the GTI was a good example.

I agree...and the fact that the Mini-Cooper S is going to be reasonably priced makes it even more a bargain. 163hp will make this little car fly. Can't wait to see one. Here are some specs and pics for these who haven't heard of this little beast.

What will make this car so darn fast? It has 163hp and weights 2500 lbs. That is only a couple hundred pounds less than a protege. I read that each 100 pounds makes about 0.1 seconds difference in a 1/4 mile.
So 163 is about the same as a civic si. How is that equal with a 200 hp ITR? I'm just curious.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions I guess....But I happen to think that BMW managed to keep the classic mini's character in tact when they relaunched the model name.

The mini has 163 hp and 155 lb/feet torque and weighs in at 2508 lbs. The Civic Si makes 160 hp and 111 lb/feet torque and weighs 2612 lbs. Last time I checked, the Mini has more horsepower per pound than the Civic. Not to mention it kills the Civic Si in torque. As far as the ITR is concerned, we are discussing sub-compacts, but here is the run down as well. The 2002 ITR has 220hp (correcting your 200hp figure) and 143 lb/feet torque and weighs 2596lbs. The mini impressively still makes more torque and weighs less. It will be competitive, but comparing the Mini to the type R is like comparing the US Military to the Canadian Military. My point being, that the Celica is better suited competition for the Type R than the mini as I am sure you'd agree. Read Sport Compact Car, they have that comparo almost every month.

If you want to be like your neighbor, drive a civic or an integra. If you want to stand out in a crowd drive ANYTHING but a civic or integra. If you think that Honda has great aftermarket support, wait till the BMW aftermarket grabs hold of the mini. According to Edmunds.com, the Mini Cooper S can be had for less than 20k US.

Your all wrong !

It's called a VW Polo. It's smaller than a Golf. Like 3/4 size. It's euro market only, and comes with a variety of engine options. A diesel, and a couple of low output fours.
