Big Explosion on Highway
This is a video of an accident hwerein a van catches fire. The fire doesn't burn that long before the explosion.
From what the investigators have found, The accident was caused by either the gas tank (made or plastic) or the side door ram, which is gas actuated malfunctioned.
ENJOY THIS!

When I first started where I work now. We had a 18 wheeler full of styrofoam insulation wreck on I-65. He "swerved to miss an animal" (at 3AM) and struck the barrier. His children were asleep in the back.
The passengers side gas tank ruptured and burst into flames. He got his kids out unharmed. He had some slight burns.
Anyway, Im the second one on scene. On the way up 65 all you see is black smoke. Ive worked lots of truck fires and fiery accidents..but this black was crazy black.
Get there and the fire is already in the trailer. (hence the dark dark smoke)
FD gets there a few minutes later and get setup. Before they could get a line out the other fuel tank exploded.
It was alot like this video. It shout out from the side.
However, it also shot out from the top. Throwing molten styrofoam well over 100 yards. Several vehicles in traffic had huge chunks of burning foam land on their hoods.
Two firefighters got hit with smaller peices and I got hit with a big chunk on my back. Thankfully I got my shirt off before it really burned me. The ff were ok also.
It shot styrofoam 100 feet in the air...so thankfully most people saw where it was landing.
Ive never seen an explosion like that. It scared the crap out of me.
Spent 13 hours with the FD and hazmat during clean up.
The barrier that he hit on I65 and part of the roadway is still covered in hardened black plastic material. Spe
