Thumbs up Wanted Short Shifter

I am looking for a short shifter for my 2002 protege5. If anyone has one for sale, or knows where I can pick up a decent one, please let me know?

Thanks,
Chris

I have a Kartboy in excellent condition. You can't buy them new anymore, but this one is in excellent condition. I can let you have it for $80 plus shipping. Let me know. Here is a pic of it...

short shifter?

Does that short shifter come with everything I would need to install it?

I was checking some short shifters out on the internet, and some come with bushings. Would I need anything else, and would my stock shift **** fit on it?

Thanks,
Chris

It comes with everything you see in the picture, which is exactly how they were sold, lol.

You don't need anything else to install it. You use your stock shifter bushings and stock pivot bearing. And the stock shift **** threads onto this one.

how difficult is that short shifter to install?

How do you go about removing the shift boot, to install that short shifter?

It's not very difficult to change out. I found instructions around here somewhere, either on this forum or another one. It should take 30 minutes to 1 hour to change out, depending on your experience. You should remove the center console, not just the shift boot. It's pretty easy to remove though. And you have to raise the car to get to the bottom of the shifter from underneath.

I'll see if I can find those instructions. You can also search around and see if you can find anything on your own. Make sure you have a pair of snap ring pliers though before attempting to do this. It is nearly impossible to remove the shap ring without them.

Here are the instructions I used. They are for a TWM brand shifter, but the process is the same.
http://www.twmperformance.com/manual...mx-3manual.pdf

When you get to the part about installing the bushings and spacers in the bottom of the shifter, you only need to remove the bushings from the stock shifter and install them in the kartboy shifter. You also reuse the bolt and nut and any washers from the stocker.

You will probably find that the bottom of the shift lever now hits the exhaust heat shield. Since the shifter doesn't come with any spacers like the TWM shows, you can install washers and longer bolts. Or do like most of us and just bend the shield down a little until the shifter clears.

This might sound like a lot of work, but it is actually pretty easy to do. And you'll be glad you did it when you are done.

did you use this shifter on your car, by how much does is reduce the throw, why are you getting rid of it?

I would like to pick up this shifter from you, altough 80 bucks is a little steap for me right now.

I had it on my P5 for about 2 months. I took it off because my wife didn't like driving with the short shifter, and I got tired of hearing her complain about it, lol.

It reduces the throw significantly. I can't say exactly by how much, but it's probably one of the shortest that you could buy.

I can go $75 shipped, but that's as low as I want to go. It's in like new condition, and cost way more than that when I bought it. Not to mention, you can't buy them new any more from kartboy.

Let me know either way.

No problem. If you want to buy a cheap one you could always check on ebay. I wouldn't recomend one of those, but they cost less.

I actually emailed kartboy, and they had some short shifters left over for Mazda's and I think I might pick one up from them. Kartboy had the shifters with the bushings for $80.00 shipped.

I'm going to see if I can squeeze some cash out of my woman so I can pick one up

Thats cool. Glad they could hook you up, and that's one hell of a good price. When I bought my shifter and bushings it was more like $95 for the shifter and I think $30 for the bushings. But I don't remember exactly what I paid. Anyway you will be glad you did it.
