Unhappy Yes, It Could Be Worse...

Well, I had a half day at school today, and a spare last period (left early), so as me and my buddy were preparing to leave (after throwing backpacks in the back) he stopped, and looked at the passenger side, with a look of horror on his face, and said "F*ck man, this is harsh." He and I ususlly joke around like that, so I thought nothing of it, and told him to get his *** in the car. He responded with, "No man, I'm f*cken serious!" and kept staring. As I went over to inspect what he was looking at, I discovered that some ******* had taken their keys and run them about 3/4 of the way down the side of my P5. As you can imagine, my heart stopped for about a minute as I stared blankly at what was left of my once-beautiful paint. I've included pics here for you to see how bad it really is. I don't know what I'm going to do.

I took it to my performance shop, and they said that it was too deep to be buffed out, and would repaint each door for $250. If I can take anything good from this, it's an excuse to get all of the rock chips on my car repaired too. I'm not sure if I have vandalisim coverage on my car or not (still have to talk to my Dad) but I really hope so.

I can't figure out who might have done this. I'm more or less a popular guy at school, and I've got no outstanding grudges held with anyone. Another interesting point to note is that of the people that know I drive to school, none other than my close friends know where I park. I'm about a 10 minute walk from the school itself, in a quiet residential neighborhood, so this leads me to believe that it may have been someone just passing by on the sidewalk. (Parked facing uphill, right side towards the sidewalk.)

I can't change what has been done, so I won't bother whining about it. I'd just lilke to get her fixed and back on the road. One thing is for sure though - I won't be taking my baby to school again for a very, very LONG time!

You probably do have insurance, but....

I think this is covered under "Comprehensive" and an awful lot of policies have $250 or $500 deductibles on that, so you may still be out the money.

I understand

Hey I understand your situation I have had two people damage my already. I have had the back bumper scraped from someone who does not know how to drive in a parking lot, and some punk pulled the Mazda symbol off the back of the car scratching it in the process. I have decided that I am going to pull of most of the emblems off the back off the car and have the holes filled in. I do not need that to happen again. I think that I will also use the oportunity to take out some rock chips as well.

There is really nothing you can do about those kind of things, and I really hate that. I just do not understand the reasoning behind it, what do people get out of damaging other peoples cars?

What the F*ck???? That's terrible Maxx!! I can't believe some people in this world...what's the frickin' point??

It looks like it'll have to be professionally done. Something like scratch-x wouldn't touch it, and a rubbing compound could cause more scratches.

One thing though: If you are going to claim is on insurance, your premiums may go up. For a young guy like you, it could be harsh. Check it out with the ins. company first. A few hundred bucks now is much better than a hike in your premiums for the next few years.

That sucks, Maxx. I had my silver P5 keyed almost the exact same way, except I was at Target with my wife. They got me from the passenger mirror all the way back to the tail light. I claimed it on insurance and got the whole side repainted. The total bill was $1107, but I only had to pay my deductible of $500. If you have full coverage, then your insurance covers this loss. Also, it doesn't go against your rates since it was vandalism. Hope you get it fixed soon. If it makes you feel any better, mine came out perfect, you can't even tell it ever happened.

Thanks to all who have replied so far for the sympathies. I talked to my Dad, and discovered taht I'm not covered for vandalasim, and that he and I are going to fix it instead. He has some experience in working with keyed cars, etc. Just fill it in with touch up paint, then wet sand all the way down through the different grits to like 2000 or something, then buff it out. It will never be perfect again, but it will be better than what this dipshit did.

Man, I just can't yet come to terms with what has happened. It may seem small, but when a guy like me who washes his car at least once a week, and waxes it about every two... To have someone deface my pride and joy in a few seconds, almost saddens me. I'm willing to bet that it was some jealous bastard. You always see it, espesially at schools. A friend of mine with an RSX recently got keyed, along with the numerous riced-out Preludes and Civics, etc. I'm just one of many. It seems that if someone else can't have a car as nice as mine, that I shouldn't be allowed to have mine at all. Well, I say f*ck that, and f*ck anybody that thinks otherwise...

Sorry, just needed to vent.

yeah sorry ta hear that dude...
don't worry too much though, there are much less vandals in university... only theives (which is covered by pretty much ALL insurance policies). one time my buddies and i caught some punks vandalizing his car (the alarm went off), and we grabbed his paintball gun, pulled out the regulator pin (so there's no more pressure control) and whaled on their asses... they got away but i'm pretty sure we gave em a couple bruises...

Just a quick thought here, someone mentioned checking with your insurance company. DO THIS ANONYMOUSLY! If you even inquire with them and they know who you are and your policy number, an "incident" is recorded on your policy with no payout, and it still counts against you at renewal time. They can't raise your rates for it, but they can use that in conjunction with anything else to cancel you; if you try to get new insurance, they can see that incident on your CLUE report (a kind of Big Brother database approach to knowing if you've even farted in your car) and use that to deny you coverage or give you expensive rates.
