owned. i almost feel bad for the guy... but they are all right, you know. well, minus those in favor of what he did. he blew his engine with his mods, and he knew it. he wouldn't have been protected under the magnusson-moss act, and he tried to cheat the system. the system won. poor chap.

Hey thanks a lot dude, my employer just paid me to read that thread for 20 minutes... Don't report me!

Seriously, though, that kid had absolutely no conscience. Sure, I wouldn't want to fork over $6 grand to rebuild my engine and turbo, but I sure as hell would not have the complete moral vacuum required to defraud the automaker either.

Good read! Makes you sit up and realize that what you say here can be used against you!

I remember reading on the VW Vortex web site about a guy who was bashing a dealership's work quality (or something to that effect) and the dealership SAW his comments that were posted and sued him for slander!

The case was eventually cleared, but not after restraining orders were filed and a legal fund was set up by members of VW Vortex.

That guy's attitude was poor, and he sounded young and has a lot of growing up to do. I don't think it was right for the Subies to mock him in his pain, but he kinda was asking for it...

I agree with everyone...that kid made a bad judgement and should pay for the consequences...hopefully he learns his lesson on when it is appropriate to use the "magnusson-moss act."

"Moral" Isn't a word that I'd use to describe any part of that thread. One guy lied, the other guy narc'ed. They're both a couple of winners! I think that the first guy was more stupid than anything, whereas the second guy (scatman) was just plain being a dick.
Here's where the word "Moral" comes into play...

Moral of the story:
If you **** up your car with illegal mods, DON'T post about how you are gonna weasle the dealership out of thousands of dollars. Somebody might be having a bad day, and misery loves company!

EDIT: Do NOT talk with fossil boy about God. He's an evolved monkey.

Well that's a stupid question...of course not...They did not take the "Moral" High ground...they took the road of the Friendless, feeble people that get their jolly's off of other people's misfortune!

Now if the tables had been turned and your engine blew...you tellin me you would shell out like 2 g's for a new engine..instead of tryin to get the warranty to cover the damages???

I think NOt!

Where I came from...people who narced on others...were not very popular..not to mention...got beat down!!

The guy who drove that wrx...shouldn't have been modding his car if he didn't know how to tune it!!

But that doesn't mean that P*ssy's should rat people out when they ask for help...

I can see flaming the guy...and even banning him from the forum but not telling on him!!

That's my .02 cents

Ok, so the people that lie, cheat, steal are the ones who have all the friends, then.

Wow. So that's, like, 1/50 of a cent, right?

now IF you think that installing a short shifter is going to make your car faster....or make it some sort of hot rod and you start shifting it hard and break something in the tranny......well just put the stock shifter back on before you take it to the dealer....its not that it will truely make a difference...but some dealers are A$$ holes about aftermarket parts...no matter what they are

I 100% DON NOT agree with what he did, but put yourself in his shoes. He was probably scared, confused, worried, and probably didn't have the money.

Like Acidbbg1 said, would you rather shell out several thousand right away, than to try and see if the dealership would cover it? I don't blame him. Thats the first thing that came to mind.

Secondly, he was a complete dumbass to post it on the forum. There are rats everywhere. Sometimes even your closest friends.

BTW, who likes a rat? I sure as hell don't. If I was on the WRX forum and saw this, I just would have kept my mouth shut.

The guy came to the forum for help. He's already DOWN on his like by several thousand dollars. And some RAT makes his problem worst. His minor problem now turns into hell. So much for his help.

Here's one example from my friend:

In '98 or '99, my friends girl bought a new '97 (2nd gen)1.5l protege. He was doing exterior mods at first then he finally decided to do a little something to the engine. So the car is almost a year and he decided to put a air intake on it. I think it was ractive and only costed about $120 or so. I think in that same week, his engine blew. He took it to his mechanic first and his mechanic said it was the intake.
At that point in time, another 1.5l engine was somewhere around $3000-/+. (Remember, he only paid about $120 for the intake). To make it worst, it wasn't actually his car, it was his girls. And he didn't have $3000 to throw out like that. So he took the intake off and took it to the dealer.

Even though the dealership found out and he ended up buying a completely new engine, I sympathized with him. He was young, worried, and broke. A $120 dollar intake, costed him $3000. And don't forget installation. The dealership understood his situation and they iare still welcomed there today.

This is why I sympathize with the WRX guy.
