Question Would you use the Mac OS on an x86 Platform?

If Apple released OS X for the PC platform would you "switch" then?

Sure I'd try it. It's pretty much just a really fancy x-windows program running ontop of unix anyways, like KDE, Gnome (even though they're with linux distros, same idea)

I'm running already running it on a Mac.
And no It's not a "fancy x-windows program" Remember who stole the GUI idea from whom.
Did anyone watch the MWSF keynote?

Calm down there big boy.... x-windows is what GUI programs run on top of linux/unix with. (that's what it's called)

[edit] OS X is just a spiffier, retailed version of this "x-windows" compared to KDE or Gnome (x windows managers that come with linux distros). You DO know that the OS X is built on unix, right?

No. OS X's GUI was developed by NeXT and is not related to X11 at all. Sorry. Aqua is a PDF-based GUI. X11 is not. I'm sorry to say but X11 sucks even compared to GDI+. OS X uses the mach kernel which is a BSD kernel ported to PPC with apple's own enhancements. It's like saying Linux is built on unix.

And everyone stole from Xerox. Apple didn't invent the GUI Zerox did. Along with the mouse and ethernet and a whole bunch of other stuff. Really with out the fellows at Xerox PARC the computer industry would look much different than it does today.

As for the poll, i'd run OSX on my PC. But it'll never ever happen. Do you think MS or Apple would want to see people replacing Windows with OSX or replacing Apple hardware with cheaper intel clones?

Well it would be a gamble either way. You will always have die hard mac users that will ONLY buy Macs...Regardless. Now on the other hand Apple would have their reasons to release it for PC...I also read that if relations with MS drop like expected, well, here is Apple's revenge ticket.

Definatly it's a gamble...but I think it would pay off. And hopefully Apple does too.

I can't see it really being in Apple's interest to do so. Sure they might steal some of the PC OS market but they would lose in hardware sales, which is where they make the money.

Every educational institution would stop buying apple hardware and by PC's with OSX on them. It would make sense financially. The same would go for graphic arts/printing industry. Imagine if you could buy a Dell with OSX installed? Who would buy a MAC? Considering the cost difference between PC and MAC hardware?

I know where I work we would stop buying MAC hardware for sure.

It would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
