Question What are your thoughts on speeding?

What are your thoughts on speeding? I am not a fan of it for many reasons, but of course everyone has their own opinion. I just think it is a waste of time, even though it saves you time.

The only two things I really think contribute to the majority of traffic accidents are drive inattentiveness and speed. Some kid got killed here last year b/c of someone speeding on a road. Now school zones have been dropped to 30km/h for the school year. That is a fairly slow speed, but I ain't arguing.

I have done the requisite search and it is kind of frightening. I found an old thread bitching about the speed limit in Texas being jumped down to 55mph and everyone crapping on it. Then some go on about driving 85-95mph (140-150kph! WTF!). Or the people that get up to 110mph, ???? I become seriously uncomfortable at those speeds b/c I know I can't do **** if someone brakes or something else (deer, muffler on road, etc).

I think i will leave it there for now and see how you guys comment on the speed issue.

In my car, I do the speed the road and traffic dictates. On my bike (back, back, way back roads only) I will regularly triple the posted limit.

Stocker.

I think it's all a matter of: 1) Time, and 2) Place...
Deserted roads; Dry conditions .... Good Time & Place
5:00 Rush Hours; inclimate conditions: Stupid

Then again, there's the actual posted limits in "hairy" places that may need to be observed by SUV drivers, yet can be easily handled by the P5.
Ex) Very tight curves in the moutains w/ a 30 MPH limit that are much more fun at 50 mph...

I am not a racer, I don't attempt to "engage" other drivers in competition. That, to me, is a bad idea since I have no conception of someone else's driving skills.

In general, traffic per se scares me - you never know what idiotic move someone will make, or what lies ahead.

On clear, curvy roads, however, I will exercise the Pro and have fun.

And around here, in spite of the posted limits, it seems Interstate speed is about 80 MPH, except through town (70 mph). So life is already fast enough

i agree with the fact that there is a time and a place. city driving either local or highway where the drive is less than 1 or 2 hrs i drive the speedlimit.

When i go up on the 5 (in california) up to norcal the speed limit is 70 and the speed of the slow lane is regularly 80 (minus the trucks), fast lane 85-90, so thats what i go, speed of traffic.

An exception is curvy roads with noone there. =P those are just so damn fun in my p5 i cant resist. i took the 30 mph turns at 60 and im sure i coulda gone faster, no tire squeeks, no body roll, very in control. and i dont cut the corners like some other drivers i see =P stay in your own damn lane and stop going 1.5 feet into mine because you cant take the turns!

That is all.

YES....there is a time and place where it does no harm.....like the others have said...when the roads are wide open, clear, the weather is good..and so is the roads surface.....let her rip, to a realistic amount......

I went on vacation this summer and we drove my wifes P-5...we went from Texas to upstate New York, over to New Hampshire and back....and when we were on the interstates for the entire time...the traffic was NORMALLY traveling at 85 mph...even though the posted limit after we got out of Texas (70 mph) was 65 MPH....the car ran and handles very comfortably at 85 to 90.....

NOW, also....if you are any where near town or rush hour...or any other time where the road is full of the normal CRAZIES that are out there...I slow down...and seeing as how I KNOW where I am going before I leave...if I am going to have to travel through those areas I allow enough time for the normal delays....and just deal with it.

the issue that ARL mentioned about Texas...and it was HOUSTON specifically lowering their limits back down to 55 is the fact that NO ONE pays attention to that anyway....and we all just drive the same way as when it was 70.....which is the same way as it was when it was INITIALLY 55.....it all just gave the police a lot of easy targets.....allowing them to boost their intake of cash...nothing more. and THAT pissed a LOT of people off. so now the city has heard the public....and its getting changed back....but not till after the first of the year.

Does your guys fuel consumption go up by a lot travelling at 80mph? Mine drops like a rock after 105 km/h, so I usually like to keep it under 110kph (68mph). Also the old four banger starts to really whine at those high revs, and it gets annoying as hell after a while .

I read that one link regarding the 55mph drop in speed limit....man, I hope all you Texans aren't as nutty as that National Motorists Association's website. Some of their views are off the wall in regards to pollution, seatbelts, alcohol use ......it's like they forgot to ask the other side of the argument.

Anywho, I digress.

streets: usually 5 mph over the limit
highway: usually 10 mph over the limit
known speed traps: speed limit on the dot!

it also depends on whether or not i'm driving in san diego or new orleans. in cali, if you're driving the speed limit, you look like a snail compared to the other drivers and will probably get the if you get in the way of someone else!

ARL, in regards to the gas consumption question....on that trip I described.....the car was loaded with four people and all our STUFF that would fit...the back of the P-5 was filled to the top of the back seats....and at the speeds I traveled (85 mph) nearly 100 % of the time....the car still got between 28.5 and 30.5 mpg. I thought that was great.

I'm not sure about the fuel, but i usually get around 600kms all highway and that's going around 120km/s all the way.

i haven't done any engine mods, but i plan on getting the AEM short ram, and the racing beat cat-back exhaust once the car is fully pain off.

WOW 120km/s...wow fuking killed my max lol...haha i know you meant 120kn/h just having a little fun!!

K my pros speed limiter cuts in at 193km/h, so well, you geussed it, I've gone that fast.

fastest i've gone on a highway must be 170km/h
fastest I've gone on a main road is the 193km/h
fastest on backroad is 180km/h

well you see i live a fast pace life

me and my friends normally chill during rush hour, so we go with the flow of traffic, but ne other time not during rush hour, we are allot of speed limit, i know yall prolly hate me for that, but thats how i am, I am careful tho, even tho you all will say I'm not, I am.

haha I got booked by an undercover cop for doing 160km/h in a 60km/h max zone, lol 3 in the morning tho so no other cars.

damn that was a huge ticket, it was about 3 months ago, but hats my only speeding ticket ever, in my 1 years of driving

Let me live my fast paced life, I'll slow down as I age

yep, 120km/s, light speed dude. hehehe

wow 193 km/h, that frickin fast.

the fasted i've ever gone in my pro5 is about 170km/h.
that was only once or twice, i don't want to burn out the engine and i don't drive real hard either..

when i was a young lad at your age, i had a lead foot too, but not that much. but all that has changed over the last few years.

i'm and old 21 now. hehe

I try to average 80+ on the freeways here. I will go 90 or so if the traffic is open. Guess I'm just one sick speeding Texas bastard. But then, at those speeds I get passed by dumbasses in trucks. I figure I'm at least driving twice as safely as they are in my Pro.

Yo Evil Homer
you know where i got caught doing my 160km/h in a 60km/h zone
it was on hurontario rd, I was going towards sqaure one from brampton at like 3 in the morning, and fuking undercover cop pulls me over.
He gave me soemthing around $600 ticket

Damn today I saw another undercover cop Holy, he was in an acura Integra, damn, it had an exhaust and rims too, he was having a little trouble shifting tho.

man we getting enuff undercover cops around here now, and in all sorts of cars, couple of days ago i saw one in an mx3 precidia

we could tell he was a cop cause he had his uniform on when we pulled up next to him.

hehe I think I'll still be hitting up these speeds at 21, maybe I'll slow down around 25, lol

recently my dad just put new tires on, and on the weekend i tried to hit my max again, but the car wouldn't go past 160km/h

what do you guys think the problem could be

it was same place that I hit 193km/h at, so i know the road conditions were the same

but we had a little gas, like a little, it was down at the last quarter tank of gas,

so what could it be, the tires or the lack of gas???
