What would you do?
All right this is the scenario
You bump into a guy that borrowed somebody's '87 Dodge Dakota, and 5 kids that look like they were smoking up or drinking come out. So you tell them not to call insurance, that you'll pay for it instead.
They wait for five days to give you a price for their part, when the limit for calling in for a claim is 72 hours. So he calls me, and he tells me that he found a part for his car that's priced 650$. Maybe I didn't get the exact same year, but I looked it up before, and it says that it's 340$. BS is what I call on this one. He says that other things are broken too which I didn't really see.
I admited to being 100% responsible at the time since I felt stupid for what I did, but they were parked in the middle of the entrance to a parking lot, and I didn't know that there wasn't more then 7 feet of room between them and the curb to get through. With the snow, I slid a bit and hit their rear bumper at about 20 km/h.
My question is if I should just screw them over and not give them anything because I can , but then I'd feel bad.
Or offer them about 200$ to do whatever they want with it.
Or go to a body shop to see how much it costs, in which case they might charge me up to 500$ plus maybe even more....

he most likely was wanted by the police anyway. thats why he didnt want you to call the cops. or wasnt legal to drive. next time just call the cops. cuz it sounds like the guy is trying to screw you.

I'd say, shop around for a good price on the bumper and get that. Karma is gonna bite you in the *** for this one, it's far beyond premeditation...and it was your fault.

Put yourself in his shoes, say you were sitting there in your MP5 or whatever you drive...and someone bumped into you. And didn't want the cops called, and you trusted them enough to pay for the damages....then say they dicked you over....that wouldn't make you very happy...
Karma bro...you have to obey the golden rule....do unto others as you would wish to be done unto you.
Sorry for the truth bro, but honesty is the best policy
Plus, just think, even if the bumper is $340, perhaps it needs a new bumper support, is it painted? There would be a few hundred bucks in paint alone...so maybe he isn't trying to dick you, maybe he just got an estimate from a body shop or something....
Check it out, look into it....and do the right thing...don't give our culture a bad rep!
Good Luck!

And guys, start to give some better advice...it don't matter if they were drinkin, shootin heroin, or smokin blunts, it wasn't their fault, so why dick them over!

Well,
If you read the original reply closely,
"You bump into a guy that borrowed somebody's '87 Dodge Dakota, and 5 kids that look like they were smoking up or drinking come out. So you tell them not to call insurance, that you'll pay for it instead. "
It seems to me that they guy that posted this message, is the one that didn't want the insurance called, not the people he hit. It is his call, if he wants to pay, pay..if not, the don't. I didn't read anything that said they didn't want the cops called.
I don't give a f@#k, I was just givin my $.02.

Well they didn't want the insurance neither since it wasn't their car, and they were there to watch their friends doing donuts in the parking lot which is fine, but they parked so that they half-blocked the entrance which I couldn't tell because it was uphill and turning to side, so I had very little room to maneuver in unplowed snow. It's still my fault and I felt really bad right when I hit them (I was going only 20 km/h no joke), but they did a stupid thing too.
I found out that they already had called insurance without telling me though while offering this guy 200$ cash or to pay for the used part and labour. They'll just give him like a 400$ credit probably and make him fix it, so he'll just have a fixed bumper instead of cash that would double his car's value.
I'm just trying to say that if this was my old '89 Tempest, I wouldn't ask for a brand new bumper, but I would've liked better 300$ (I offered him 200$) that could go towards a new Protege hehe. Hang on, that piece of white trash doesn't deserve a Pro
Oh, and for that 650$ that he wanted, dream on buddy if you're reading this
Cheers
