It was $349.99 at Circuit City. I probably could have gotten it less online but oh well. I'm really happy with the camera - takes great pics.

I tried to take some pics ,to see if they could get anywhere near as sharp as yours, keep in mind these are not edited in anyway a and were taking at different settings....
1st camer in 1mpixel mode ,set to basic
2nd with the camera in same pixel mode but in normal
3rd in the same 1meg mode but camera in fine

here are some other pics I took in the 640x480 mode , most of them anyway ...

pic 1
pic 2
pic 3 vga
pic 4 vga
pic 4 vga
pic 5 vga macro
It all boils down to the optics , and I think the canon has way better optics... I will be aiming for that S40 though
tell me what you think please , of the photo quality

Bruce, try taking some pics in different lighting conditions. Have the sun behind the car, and not in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight tends to wash things out a bit, and on the other hand, being in the shade doesn't help with the detail. Maybe around dusk or a little before then.

It was raining the day I took those pics, wich ment there was like a overcast, wich is usually pretty good for shooting , as your metering system will be dead on when shooting ,, ot at least more precise I should say ..... I do love to shoot in the sun though with it behind me ofcourse cause that just makes some plain freaky pics , especially after washint the whip
