What to buy??

OK gang, this is kinda like travis' thread about the car he wants to get, except this time it's for MEEEE! I'm working at a place right now "full time" (40 hours a week), but it's not a fulltime position, meaning I'm hired just as a consultant right now. There is a possibility that they may offer me a fulltime position (I hope, I hope!). I'm making good money now, and it will only get better. I don't want to get super in debt, so I've limited my two pics for cars. Here's my decisions....

1. Nissan Maxima (4th gen, '95-'99) 3.0l V6, 5 Speed... Price approx $8-$12k

2. Protege5 (2002, new) 5 speed. Price approx $15-19k (help me out here?)

Ok, right up front I'm going to say I'm heavily favoring the Maxima. Sorry boys. Don't flame me too bad... No matter what I'm going to keep my 3deuce3 as a project car (kl-ze anyone???).

First of all, I miss torque. I used to have a Beretta GT, and even though it didn't have a lot of torque, it was still leaps and bounds over any 4cyl(NA) I've driven.

Second, I've loved Maxima's for quite a few years now. They are nice, pretty luxorious, and suprisingly quick (can run in the low low 15s stock with the right driver).

Now, on the other hand, the Protege5s are HOT! I'm not sure if I would want to spend that much for a car right now though, considering I have a lot of student loans to pay back, and a 3deuce3 to makes fast as ****.....

The warranty thing would be nice, but I'm afraid I'd want more power as soon as I'd get it and void it with a BEGI kit once they come out anyways. That's another $3-4k on top of whatever the pro5s go for these days.

Oh, BTW... Future mod plans with the Maxima would be 18s on a nice drop with the stillen body kit, and eventually the stillen supercharger. Pretty much the same for the Pro5... A drop, 18s, and the BEGI kit when it comes out. No nitros, though... I need my boost to be all the time!

So people, help me out here. Don't be afraid to put up some car suggestions, but don't feel bad if I shoot them down I'm looking for a nice, reliable ride that I can be proud to drive around for once.

hey the maxima is a great car, and would a good choice, of course i'm gunna favor the P5,
ok letts see maxima will give u more power and even i was gunna get one, but then the p5 will be new, most likely last u longer (depending on you and the drivers around u, oh and mods)
better handling, and u can keep it in the family (incest is always the best if it keeps u in the mazda fam)
if u do get the maxima get as new as possible.
if u get a p5 get it in red.

IMO, but what do i know...

ps. be proud of the 323

There's going to be a redesign for the Maxima soon, so the good thing is you can get a good deal on those gen end models, bad thing is that its going to hurt resale value. But I must admit I love the Maxima, great handling, sporty, and QUICK!
But if I had the cash I would go for the rwd G35. Anyone see the G35 coupe?

Maximas already have terrible resale value... It doesn't really matter to me though. A newer on would be nice, but they will still be hovering around $20-$25k even when the 2004s come out.

Yea, the G35s are incredible machines... The sedans sprint to 60 in less than 6 seconds even with their auto tranny (only option right now). The coupes are going to be wicked quick!

since pepole are throwing out other cars, consider the IS300. If I could buy another car right now, that would probably be it.

Well, thanks for the idea, but that's way more than I want to spend. One of the reasons I don't want to get a P5 is because I don't want to have to be paying on the car like 5 years before I own it. With a $10k maxima, I could have that paid off in a few years easy. IS300s are nice, maybe when I start making some real money!

Go for the Maxima, my friend has one in that generation and it rocks. Plenty of Luxury and performance, mucho bigger than my accord, but its all good

How about a '95 300ZX..... I bet you could find one for less then $12k US and you KNOW that it'd be nice.... even if it's not the twin turbo version

Yes, but then you would get your butt kicked by Z28's and TA's all the time, because you are in their territory with the 300zx go for the turbo or don't go at all.

No no, Travis you see after he does the swap in his 323, he'd get beat maybe in the 300ZX, but then he'd come back with the 323 and show 'em what's up!
