thread deletion issue...

Two more threads were just deleted - why?
You respond to a negative post by investigating someone's IP, then exposing the supposed "culprit" to ridicule, only to remove the threads entirely.
Please remember - it was the Mod's choice to locate personal info and then to share the findings with the board.
I find this to be bad judgement, in general, but, whatever...
However, this whole scene comes accross as narcissistic, in that, negative comments seem to justify an IP investigation. Further, then, through mere whimsy, the threads dissappear.
All of this reeks of self-proclaimed importance, with an uneven iron-fist of censorship.
The can-of-worms was opened by the Mods, who should deal with the consequences, rather than invoking a response of "Thread ****".
It seems to me, that Bolt-on's comments are borne out by the observed reactions

Good point, Menace!
that why I like these discussions, sometimes a modicum of logic is produced, even from "bad" threads...

IP NAT

The last thread...

Sometimes I dont even understand my own words, but here it goes.

Think about the new technologies, for example: IP NAT, which is now used in most ISP's serving DSL/Cable and low cost analog connections.

IP NAT what it is about (for those who dont know) is that 1 public IP address is used to connect a host/computer with private addresses (like 192.168.1.5), works like a simple firewall, hidding your computer from public access.

Now, most ISP's around the world is usint NAT with Overloading, which means that they can connect multiple computers/hosts/clients with private addresses and translate them to 1 public registered address using different ports, like port mapping/forward. So that may be a case if him.

His ISP may connect a thousand computers/hosts to only one public IP and forward requests using different ports (there are about 4,000 available for each ip).
Click here for the better explanation

Anyway...i think that last guy is guilty.

Another reason the thread was deleted, it was posting in this 3rd gen forum, and has nothing to do with 3rd gen cars. So technically......

Whether he did it or not, he shouldn't have flipped out with that extra thread, that was just ridiculous. Since I'm losing the "final survivor" vote, I'm going to create a thread saying F U all because no one voted for me blah blah blah blah!

So what is your Point about anything GRO HARLEM
do you always think you can ban an IP address casue you feel like it??
What is your problem??? I stated how I felt 3posts after the bolt dude did and you accuse me of having the same IP address what is your deal check this freaking IP and dance around with your hands in the air and say what the hell.
READ ABOVE IP ADDRESS are connected and shared only by a main IP at the server. YOU JUST BLOCKED who knows how many people..
GET IT TOGETHER BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ANYONE OF ANYTHING.
IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANYONE THAT POSTED THAT FROM GLOBE OR TWO STREETS DOWN FROM MY HOUSE SHARING THE SAME STATIC IP

Well here's my question... If your server shows only one external ip for thousands/hundreds of computers, how are you on again now? Are you at work or something? Because garaunteed your ISPs external IP wouldn't change, only your internal IP connecting to your ISP.

I don't know if yours is done differently, but my cable modem gets a IP that people can get to from all over the world, i.e. it's external.

So Sherlok Holmes says if you're now on again at your home where they supposedly banned the IP address for your ISP, then your ISP doesn't use one external IP, because you'd still be banned, as would everyone else using your ISP. So if that is the case, then the original post and the next two from you came from the same computer.

That is my point exactly My IP has not changed intill today. When I had to go to another machine in a company that is world wide to change my IP from one server to another.
I had nothing to do with the BOLTS post. I expressed my opion and how I also felt. Now I am the loser for having the same ID it gets banned and am forced to use a computer at the some where else to make my point. Have Gro Harlem search all those IP's and you will see that they were all from different places.
Enough with this topic I see how childish little people some of the moderators can be. I am smart enough to go to somewhere else to post now hmmm does that not tell you why the hell would I post something with the same IP address. Check the forum reg or the program it self and make an accusation that two people in AZ can not have the same IP address. thats childish

Kosmicride - You can't hide behind NAT. Every broadband ISP issues you 1 valid IP address (or more if you ask, assigned via DHCP). They do not utilize NAT. They subnet their IP address block over thousands of accounts. Same thing with dialup. A RAS system (Remote Access Server) issues you a valid IP address to surf the Inet with. So basically you have a lame *** excuse there.

An ISP using NAT Overload can assign their block, lets say 255 public addresses, to nearly one million hosts...its like:

216.226.142.16:2034
216.226.142.16:2035
216.226.142.16:2036
216.226.142.16:2037
216.226.142.16:2038
216.226.142.16:2039
216.226.142.16:2040

all of these are 7 different people connected to the internet on their own homes, if you see, all of em are using the same IP, only with different ports for routing purposes, and all of em may be reading and writing threads in protegeclub.com and the IP logged for all these 7 people will be the same...

Igdrasil, I don't think you read my post. I understand fully how NAT works. I've configured more than my fair share of Cisco routers.

I was saying he was a moron to try and hide behind NAT and try and pretend it was not him. I doubt the University of Phoenix even uses NAT. I've never seen a University that did with their student computers (although I only have experience with University's inside Texas).

yeah my fault ...my understanding of english is not so good....i learned it from TV, school and the web, so im only able to practice it on forums like this one.
I work on a place where nearly 99% of the people only speaks spanish and doesnt know a word of english.
So...i tried to practice how can I explain a bit of NAT in english, which is very hard for me to find the correct words.

peace
