SUV to tow with

Girlfriends parents are looking for a new suv to tow there boat.
They dont know **** about cars. Target price range 35-40 more if looks good.

The old SUV, dodge ram charger, died. So they don't want anything american.

Toyota 4 runner is in the lead because it comes with a V8 for cheap. Anything better on the market?

I can't believe I'd ever say this....but....

the new jeep liberty now comes with a NICE turbo diesel option. If it's anything like the TDi I've got now you'll love it. In the passenger car the diesel gets amazing mileage for commuting and when you need to tow it has a TON of torque down low.

The new diesel Liberty looks promising.

Poor Ramcharger. Those are good rigs; I used to drive one, but we sold it to get something vastly more economical, hence my '98 Pro I drive now.

Um, how heavy is the boat? Are they looking to tow anything heavier than the boat? I used to work at Acura as a porter (super illustrious job, I know), and the MDXs can tow about 5000 lbs. Those are/were very good SUVs that I would highly recommend over a lot of other ones. They sold for about 36-44k then (up to '06). The new generation '07s get a larger motor (3.7 from 3.5 V6) among other things and will probably tow equal or more than their predecessors. The price range is nearly identical (I heard/read) to the last generation, which is pretty sweet.

That's what I recommend. MDXs are quality vehicles (much nicer than the Honda Pilots in many ways) and hold their value well. Obviously, they can find out for themselves with a test drive--that is if the boat is within a reasonable size. If it's a lot heavier, then I don't know. Hope my 2 cents helps.
