Not only that...Empire ended with a HUGE cliffhanger. If anything, Episode II lacked that. They should've been left with a real problem to face. Everyone should've been in some kind of trouble and everything should be left open for us to be anxious for Episode III in three years.
It's not the problem that there are too many special effects...it's just that a lot of them were done badly. There was no point to making actors stand in front of a blue screen to spit out dialogue and digitally put in a background in post-production. It takes away from the motivation to the actors, which provides stilted and dry line-reading. Not only that, the mat lines around the actors are clearly visible, which makes for a fake-looking scene.
George Lucas can not script-write. Nor can he direct. I am convinced of that now. It worked in the 70's when the innovation of the new technology captured the imagination of the world, and Lucas was still working to make a good movie, rather than making some money. Now, he's just abusing the new technology, and doing (part of) it badly. Very sad.
My favorite scene in the picture, the Yoda fight scene, is still plagued by flaws. Yoda would much more be in character if his fighting style was much more reminicient of Chow Yun Fat in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This Jedi shouldn't need to to barrel rolls, flips and all these "monkey on crack" techniques that he was made to do in Clones. This man should be so awesome with the sabre that his movements are limited to dodging and striking. A common martial arts idealism is that the best way to do things is with the most energy neccessary to do the job, but as little as so not to be redundent and waste energy. That was not Yoda. It still made for a fun scene, though.
There are a few other factors which I won't bore you with. As the unconvincing love story will do that for me.
And while I loved the concept to the story with the future Emperor and his apprentice playing two seperate sides to start a war within themselves in order to gain power from the inside, I find myself shaking my head how how George Lucas is just doing this to build his retirement fund.
I give Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones 4 out of 10.

Like I said, in the 70s and 80s, you people would have said "those puppets looks so fake". Its Computer Generated Images! Of course its fake! LOL
You tell me a movie that had scenes like that that looked "real".

Oh, the classic "if you were a real Star Wars fan" retort. Judging films is an subjective act. I am being subjective from my own perspective...whether you choose to take it positively or negatively, it matters not to me.
Yoda is a martial artist. Martial artists, especially "masters", don't waste time and energy "showing off". It would've been much cooler if he fought that scene as if he needed no effort at all.
And as far as "realism" goes, it's not about that. It's about being within the realm of believability. Shrek did NOT look real, but it was consistent within its world and was "believable" from scene to scene. Episode II had landscapes that were beautiful and were believable. Episode II had live action scenes on sets that were perfectly believable. Episode II also had scenes in front of blue screens which were obviously shot on blue matting. i know how anakin turns to the dark-side. a new young sith lord named darth onehawaiian seduces the young queen/senator padme amidala and has crazy sex with the hottie from naboo...
oh yeah, i don't mind the digital effects, it's the lame one-liners that seemed geared to little kids that bother me. sure, there were funny and maybe even lame one-liners in the first trilogy, but they were geared toward the general sci-fi audience, not the "family". lucas is a blowhard sell-out.
aaah, bur ep2 is totally nuts! saw it twice in the same day (opening night then later that evening).

It's true that a martial art's master should fight that way, but if Yoda did it would look extremely awkward because of his height. Count Dooku would look like he is slashing at his feet while Yoda is targeting his *****. . So the way Yoda fights is appropriate IMO, as it shows the energy of they fella, absent from the SW series. Now SW fans know he is not only wise but can fight also.
I think Lucas realizes this since in Episodes 4,5, and 6 we see both Darth Vader and Darth Sidious fight in the calm and minimal movement style described earlier, reflecting to both their skill AND as appropriate to their HEIGHT.

altho young jedi knight obi-one-hawaiian tragically dies in that dumb@ss suicide mission to save obi-wan, anakin and amidala, it has been rumored that he had a brief sexual encounter with the former queen of naboo. jedi records would reveal that a stray laser reflected off anakin's saber was the cause of obi-one-hawaiian's death. bastard.

All I know is, I was pumped when the dude challenged Yoda to a lightsaber duel. He was like, "It is quite obvious master Yoda that in terms of Jedi skills we are equal. So let's see who excels when it comes to the lightsaber!" Then Yoda busted out the little green lightsaber, and everybody in the theater was like, "Wooo! Hell Yeah!"
I thought overall the movie fit the feeling of the first trilogy way better. I loved it!!!

I think Lucas redeemed himself with episode 2. All through episode 1 I can remember hating every scene jar jar (most of the movie) was in and that kinda ruined the movie for me. Thank god he only makes brief apperances in EP 2. Lucas could have been a dick and said screw the fans this movie is gonna make tons of money either way and force feed us jar jar. Btw when yoda force pulled his saber to his hand i got goose pimples. . .would see it again just for that scene.

altho i am a sw buff, can someone please explain how the hell there are all these sith running around? and who trained sidius? i was under the impression that only two there are, a master and an apprentice; no more, no less. and yet we have this darth maul, count dooku, sidius, and i'm assuming saifadius (bought the clones and died 10yrs ago)
and is it just me, or does the jedi council suck? if i was a jedi, i would jump head first down the dark path cause they have more fun. (not to mention they have cooler lines...)

I thought that Safiadius was Qui Gon Jin, in Episode 1 ordered the clones to be used as a army. Think about it. The Prime Minister of Camino told Obi that it was his master that ordered the clones, on many occasions and Qui Gon also died 10 years ago in Episode 1, when he was sabered by Darth Maul (the coolest Sith IMO).
In addition I discovered who trained who on the Jedi side. Yoda trained Dooku, who was a former Jedi, and then Dooku trained Qui Gon (as he said to Obi when Obi was imprisoned), in which Dooku may have instructed him to build a clone army 10 years or more ago. Then Qui Gon went on to train Obi and then Obi trained Anakin.
