Some scary ish....

Crazy stuff happened to me earlier this evening. Well it kinda freaked me out until I realized that it was. I was driving with my friend and we both her this loud pop from my engine and then my car just slowed to the likings of a snail, mind you I was in the middle lane, so I kinda had nowhere to go at first. Luckily the lane was open and I got to a parking lot and managed to coast my car into a slot.

Popped the hood and couldn't see a thing. (No Flashlight)
So I had to leave my Pro there and call my bro to help me check it out. It turns out, with the help of a trusty flashlight, one of my spark plugs popped out of the cam and hit the radiator. Nothing damaged or anything.. but now the car runs rough. So I'm off to get it checked out tomorrow.. and get a tune up while I'm at it.

Just wanted to share that.. haha...

I guess the moral of all this is I should always keep a rachet set and flashlight in my car for future emergencies no?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news....but if you had a sparkplug come out of your head while you were driving....I wuold bet you money that the head is stripped out....otherwise the sparkplug wouldn't have come out......

you are going to have to have the haed worked on to recover the sparkplug threads....I have seen this done without removing the head, its a little tricky...but doable....what will need to be done is have a helicoil installed of the proper size.

hmm... I'll check that out...

From initial observance though it didn't seem stripped.. it's almost as if it wasn't put on tightly and the natural vibration of the engine shook it loose...

I dunno.. I'll have it checked out tomrrow...

Seeing that I live grant check to grant check... I'm prayin' on a miracle here... haha

well with a RUBBER boot stuck on the top of the plug...it would be hard for it to vibrate round and round enough to come out.....not to mention....if you had a lose plug....it might not gound as well as you would get a misfire possibly....and to top that off....the hot gasses passing through the threads could easily burn out the threads...not to mention it could physically eat out the material....I have seen this happen with aluminum heads....it can be ugly....but just to have a helicoil installed is not that bad, a talented mechanic can do it fairly easily without removing the head....not the absolute BEST way to do it....but its possible in a pinch. but unless you personally know of such a talented mechanic....I recommend the head coming off....for what is at risk is dropping metal shavings into your cylinder.

Just got back from the mechanic earlier today for a tune up...

Nothing too bad with it. They just said I need to get the #3 and #4 plug re-threaded or it will happen again somewhere down the line. 25 bucks each to get done.. so... not such a big deal. Looks like I know where my next grant check goes to... blah....

Other than that.. seems to work fine..

do you mean you are still driving the car? that they just screwed it back in and gave it back to you?

granted the price for the fix isn't bad....but I would question the mechanics ability that would just put the plug back in and tell you to get it fixed soon....

It was my judgement to tell them to put it back in. They wanted to fix it. I dunno if I'm taking the demeanor in how you type the wrong way, but try being in my shoes...

Empty bank account and a credit card that has 5 bucks in it. If the car runs I'll drive it. If it breaks down somewhere down the line I'll take it as it comes. For now, I'll just knock on wood...
