I rather have a car that can a car at 55mph and regaining control completely then to swerve left and right. I also like to spend less less than 2 minutes at the gas pump.
funny how u talk about the Rav 4 then talk about spending time at the gas pump. It has a 14.7 gal tank so your not going to be spend anymore time at the pump. also where did you get 90%. sounds like it was just some off the wall statment like the gas pump one was. if everyone just used suvs to get around in the winter then that would more then justify the use of it to them.

ok, here is my rant. most SUV's aren't logically designed for off roading. it's an oversized cab on a truck chasis. reasons to not drive an suv
1. gas mileage is half that of most compact coupes and sedans
2. blind spots are twice that of a car
3. excessive vehicle height renders rear view mirror useless for objects 20 or closer in some cases
4. 85% of all morning commuters in the major east and west coast cities commute with 1 or 2 people, no more.

the only idiots i ever actually see use their suv to an advantage is cutting cars off with their massive bulk, some jack *** speeding to the turning lane by running over the median, or some jerkoff using the sidewalk as a means of travel in busy city traffic ( something you have to be careful of in philadelphia rush hour traffic). either than that, i guarentee that more than 3/4's of the damn 4x4 suv's on the road couldn't run an offroad course to save it's life. only true offroading vehicles that i've seen that come stocked enough straight from the factory are jeep wranglers and various land rovers. i mean, i have friends that drive pick up trucks... but they have nothing to pick up!! no need to go to home depot or 84 lumber, no need to carry **** for landscaping or anything useful. time for some expensive tire slashing
peace

I don't believe it...Wait until you hear this one. I'm on I-94 today, coming home, in the left-hand lane. Traffic's stopped, like it always is. We're creeping along, and then a white Lexus SUV (RX-whatever) pulls out of line about five cars behind me and whips around everybody on the left shoulder! I'm expecting to see some businessman with something to prove, but instead it's a 55-60 year old woman! I honk at her, and she cuts back in line right in front of this little Honda about four cars up, and the Honda driver honks at her, and she GIVES HIM THE FINGER and hits the brakes! Everyone in line had to slam on the brakes to let this bitch in, and then she stops traffic because someone called her on making a thoughtless move.

I changed my mind. Ban the f**king things. Then you won't have bitter, nasty Baby Boomer women power-tripping in a vehicle they can't handle.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this one but I don't think it and maybe the Wrangler should be banned:

http://www.crosslander.com

Looks pretty frickin rugged to me, has a diesel, and is basically just an old Romanian army truck converted for US civilian use (lightly from the looks of it). I don't mind if people buy an SUV to use it for something (4WD that actually gets turned on once in awhile, many vehicles never even have theirs engaged in their lifetime). Who the hell pays 27k (asking price for a mildly optioned Explorer) for a vehicle that doesn't have AWD, traction control, or 4WD and is a RWD with crappy traction. Then doesn't even have leather seats when the sticker for a Honda Accord with traction control, leather, and more is only 25k? The sad thing is that soccer moms can't stand to drive a wagon or a minivan and have to buy some huge rolling behemoth that only one person is usually riding in.
