At least you didn't want to be an Ewok.
The Cylons were the bad guys from Battlestar Galactica. They were shiny robots who were out to take down the whole human race.

Not unlike the Daleks...

Definitely would rather go up against a stormtrooper rather than a cylon.
The stormtroopers can't hit the broad side of a barn. The cylons are machines, so they have no feelings, don't get tired and don't give a !#&% about their own danger...

Storm troopers were like robots, but they were clones (as Mr. Lucas so painfully depicted in Star Wars Episode II - Send In The Clones).
I suppose as time wore on they replaced some stormtroopers with different clones, since they spoke in different voices.

Eppisode 2 had clones in there, but my understanding with the original series and the books that came out later is that the empire used normal humans that had all the fear wipped out of them. not clones. I could be wrong now. Old Georgie had burst the urban myth bubble on some things in episode 2.

BTW... Love the way they changed the uniforms for Episode II. My guess is that the Empire is like GM, started out with really cool uniforms, and then later (to save money) got the crappy boring white ones.
