In Sacramento Yesterday......happened upon

While on business yesterday in Sacramento, California I happened upon a young dude exiting a brand new spankin' Silver Anniversary VW GTI. We struck up a conversation about it's performance, cost, engine, and such which in turn brought up memories. That car rocks! Specification includes sports suspension, modified bumpers, wider sills, 18" BBS alloy wheels, a roof spoiler and a chromed tailpipe. Inside, there were black w/red stitching Recaro front seats, aluminium pedals, a golf ball-shaped gear lever ****; 0-60 in 7.9 seconds;315mm (12.4") diameter vented front and 256mm (10") rear vented brakes with red powder coated calipers;and a 1.8Turbo 20valve engine with 180 horses. Needless to say I drooled. Not too bad for a $23K (USD) car....except it needs an extra pair of doors. Anyone else seen one?

Me too. Except it'd be black. They apparently only make silver, white and black for this 25 year version. Are you FoxyMazda thinkin' about it? I would if I bought a second car.

Like BlueLedz said: the 1.8T is fully equipped and ready for mods to race. Check out VWVortex.com and their discussions on the GTI 337 and pics. Also, to add to it: under their discussions their are some intelligent posters there who speak highly of the MazdaSpeed Protege being better than the GTI 1.8T. My favorite quote: "Mazdaspeed P5 = "bye bye GTI"

Blueledz: I'm there sometimes for obvious reasons. A guy can wish...can't he?

Thumbs up

I used to be a VW junkie and was very close to getting a Golf, the 1.8t is sweet.

Thanks for the chuckle. I had to turn down the volume to read such an enthusiastic response. Foxy you're too much with too much mind. Thanks.
