rev limit

what is the best reccomended number of revs to switch when racing someone? i have a stock 1.6 SOCH LX, 12 years old, i dont know to how much rpms she goes, once i came to 6000-6200 and didnt have guts to go on. how much are the chances to blow the engine? 10% - 15% still dont drive her (dont have a licence yet does anybody knows whats the rev limit for those engines?

semtex - the only reason i'm even posting is b/c of your signature is greart. haha.

i havent had had much experience w/driving a stick, and the experiences i did have i wasnt racing.

i'm guessing your car doesnt have a tach. so just go with the sound of the engine and how it feels. when the engine noise starts to even out and/or you begin to lose acceleration.

my car has a tach, 6000rpm redline, but im asking to how much rpms goes 1.6 SOCH, not to the redline but to the limit, and i also want to know is it reccomended to rev 12 year old SOCH to the max.

Are you guys serious? Why the hell would you want to rev it over 6K? There should be a rev limiter to stop you from over reving the engine. Unless you want to see holes in the side of your engine from throwing a rod, then I wouldn't suggest anything more than 6500. You will loose power above 6K anyway.
