i came here

because my GRANDPAS a/c needs some recharging...any place i could find this info on how to do it .........actually never mind...he had r12 i guess...illegal now...so he has to do some sort o retro fitting to make r134 work........eh more work

I know it can be done, and I don't even think it's all that expensive. The fittings need to be changed on the lines, and the whole thing has to be emptied out before the new stuff goes in, but I don't think any parts have to be replaced (compressor, condenser, etc). Don't know if you can DIY or not.

Google around; I'm sure you'll turn up something.

I did a conversion on a 84 accord and didnt do anything different. just make sure you drain the system before recharging it. U will need the fitting as the 134a uses a different one. but we just put 134a oil and coolent in and it worked great. sure maybe not as good as r12 did but still kept the car cold in hot days. we did that 2 years ago and its still working. i think the main diff between r12 systems and 134 is the 134 needs more capacity to cool as good as 12. idk this is just what i did.
