Question for those who believe all religion should be abolished?

Hi,

Have you ever met someone who is completely incapable of running their own lives? I have met many a person like this.

Only religion or the military seems to help them. There are people for whom religion is a better option than to be allowed to make their own decisions. If religion were completely abolished, these poor lost souls would have no one to tell them what to think and how to behave. Although religion is not necessarily for people who are capable of independent, productive thought and action, it does have its place no?

What say ye?

I don't think religion should be abolished, though it would be great if 'my religion is better than yours' ideas could be abolished.
I say your statement is where religion came from in the first place, helping those that don't know any better... Or if they need some reason to know of a 'higher calling' to be able to live.
What better control is there than a magical man in the sky (ref. george carlin bit) that will reward you when you die. Creating a set of rules that includes how to act, what's right and wrong, and don't forget to pay 20% of your income to the church...

one of the pillars of islam requires 1/40th of your income to go to charity, not 20%. if you prefer your 1/40th of your income to go to videogames or smokes, thats your prerogative and nobody is forcing you otherwise.

christianity asks (does not require) for 10%, not so the pastor can drive a new Lexus (although it often ends up that way) but to trust your finances with the big guy in the sky. the big guy doesnt need the money, but how many people lose their belonging to a fire and a church in the community comes in to provide shelter or help refurnish? how about hurricane victims? the bible was not written to be a do's and dont's list--the 10 commandments are the only exception but those are 10 things most people wouldnt do anyway.

the whole "my religion is better than yours" debate is missing the point. the argument really is "my faith is the only way" which is largely christian argument but also applies to every religion. so the problem is not all religions can be right at the same time, but they all deserve equal amount of respect and tolerance. united states was founded on the grounds that the govt cannot force you to believe anything you dont want to. religion was not designed to force rules or recruit members and its your god-given right to not choose any religion at all. but christians, muslims, buddhists, etc should be allowed to practice theirs by that same right.

religion exists because its in every human's drive to seek out something greater in the universe. voltaire, the 18th c. philosopher and renouned aethiest was quoted "if god did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him" acknowledging both god's presense and humanity's need for it. well that was a lot. im bored at work incase anyone noticed that lengthy reply. btw ramadan began last saturday. shout out to any followers of islam.

I believe there will always be fighting for some reason or another, just look at your own family and friends. Larger groups with similar beliefs of right and wrong will pop up and cause similar problems to what each mainstream group has - their extremist groups.

Religious beliefs are the core issue of why the middle east is so screwed up, every one started in the same place - likely with the same person, but they all feel their idea is the correct one and don't give up. So the point of no religion would likely have resulted in less violence there in the mid-east.

The problem with no religion is that there needs to be something to tell all the lost souls (or mindless individuals) how to act (aka the 10 commandments and the bible etc...). Without religion, there would be no moral guideline for humanity in general.
Then again, if there was another simple guideline without religion (or some devoted following), would it stick?

I think there Can Only Be World Peace When All Religion is Abolished because more people have died as a result of religion than any other war.Religion causes more problems than it results in solutions, and tears people apart more than it brings people together.

srsly..no spam plz

Although I am not a religious person I believe religion is a right. It’s a belief which you can't take away from anyone. You can try but it will never work. Religion has done a lot of good and bad things for the human race. Morals, government and property are a result of religion.

Yes wars are fought over religious beliefs; however most wars are over power and natural resources. Wars over religion are becoming less and less common. The Middle East is the exception.

As science and globalization continues more and more people become less and less religious (this is probably one of the reasons why much of the world hates western culture).

Bottom line is that religion cannot be abolished even if the government abolishes it. You cant micromanage every person and family.

I think religion should not be banned because it is something personal. With that said, I do think that people should be more open to others beliefs and not push them on others. Religion is the cause of most wars because feel that they are right and others are wrong

It is not important to change people's religion or ban it but the solution is removing the mentality of people who runs behind religion.
