ps2 games...

Ok, my mom is gettin me a ps2 for Christmas, and i'm wondering what good games are out there for racing. There's this one game for x-box which features some of the sickest trucks racing on off-road tracks. I don't know how many of you have seen this game, but I'm wondering if there's anything like it for ps2? If so, what are they!? I hope I made the right choice in getting a ps2 over an x-box.

XBox sucks, those controllers are so uncomfortable, GameCube on the other hand..... plus XBox is way too expensive

Gran Turismo 3 is just a given though I'm mainly lookin for somethin like that off-road game that x-box has. That game looks wicked.

GT3 is definitely a must! Also, there's this ATV off-road game that is pretty cool. My bf doesn't really get into ATVs, but the racing is really cool. Midnight Club Street Racing is a decent game, if you want to do all your driving in the city settings.

Thanks for all the input everyone. One more question... I heard that you can play playstation 1 games on a ps2. Is this true? Because the box says it's only for ps2 games and no other games will work. What's the deal?

Uh...Not true! I have a PS2 and play my old PS1 games on it all the time. The PS2 is also a DVD player if you didn't know. It is the shiot!

I hate nintendo ever since they went to that stupid kid friendly 64!

"Playstation is to game consoles" as "Honda is to imports". They have all the cool stuff.

If you like rallying there's a wicked game coming out called "World Rally Championshop 2001" ... it's being published in Europe this month, but I just got an email from the development company that said Sony USA "might" be considering a launch of it Spring 2002...

It looks amazing but I'm so pissed that we're not going to get it at the same time as everyone else!!

I'm not a fan of Microsoft's racing games.. at least their off-road ones on the PC a while back didn't have a very good feel to them but maybe they've improved...

PS2 also has F1 2002 .... if you're into that type of racing..

Metal Gear Solid 2. This game alone is the reason to buy the system. But if you haven't played any...play the one for PSOne first and you will enjoy the story 10x more.

for the X-Box how can you ignore Dead or Alive 3, i mean that game is just beautifual, so many little things that you dont have time to appreciate it! It's also just as much fun to watch as play, well kinda

You should be able to play almost any PS1 game on PS2. At Toys R Us there is a list in the video game section that shows which games won't work on PS2. There's only a few, and I've never heard of most of them anyway. Kiddie games, I think.

Yeah the WRC game sure looks pretty.. we'll have to wait and see if it ever makes it to North America.

The game is getting mixed reviews from rally fans though .. stuff like there are a lot of things that were promised and left out in the final game, not very realistic physics, etc... There should be some discussion on the wrc.com message board (and probably some other euro racing game boards as well, but I can't think of any right now).

Maybe we'll get lucky and we'll get a sequel to WRC over here

There should also be Colin McRae Rally 3 coming to PS2 .. (?)

GT3

My wife got me a PS2 with GT3 for Christmas. (I'm a really old kid)
GT3 is definately a given, but It only has about 200 cars, compared to about 500 in GT2.
I just ordered GT2, since it will play on the PS2.

If only GT3 came with a virtual P5 to play on my PS2. That would be A-OK.

Tony Hawk should be good. Along that genre would also be Shaun Palmers Pro boarder & the MMX, BMX, & Motorcross games (Jeremy McGrath & stuff...dont remember the exact names) I just got Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero yesterday. Havent had much time to play it yet but it seems decent. Sounds like Midnight Club Racing. You race around the streets of Tokyo with your car that you spend money on upgrading looking for rivals to street race. Instead of the track racing concept, you race one on one with other street racers through streets that you get to choose your route (somewhat). But I would still suggest GT3 which as said before, is a given. Metal Gear solid is good & Grand Theft Auto 3 is supposed to be great. I also hear the new 007 is good. Havent tried it yet.
