Protege 5 is not a wagon !!!
I don't get WTF Matrix/Vibe are compared to PR5. They are not mini wagons. they are fookin minivans!
I am totally disguisted with way automotive journalists treat P5-it's aint no freakin' wagon-it's hatchback. Same for Zx5(I kinda like it)If I follow the trend correctly, then Golf is miniwagon too...?
Let's start website
www.protege5-is-not-a-******-wagon.com
and firebomb all journalists who call it wagon
So...First rule of operation "Protege5 is not a wagon" is that you don't talk about operation "Protege5 is not a wagon" ,second rule of operation....you got the point

while i AGREE that the matrix and vibe are some minivan/wagon cross breed garbage.......
the P-5 IS a wagon....a sport wagon....its NOT a hatchback. Hatchback hatches are not vertical or nearly so like OURS....hatchbacks look more like a sedan or coupe and the trunk is attached to the rear windown area and the whole thing lifts to expose a falt deck area for storage.
SORRY.....if you don't think WE are driving a wagon...but we are...and A DAMN FINE LOOKIN ONE TOO!!!

So is that a Honda wagon? Oh well, my yellow P5 will always be referred to as The Juggalo Wagon.

Whats the deal with all these 4 door hatches? No wonder people are calling them wagons..Civic hatches were all 2 doors, and now they are 4 doors, along with all other manufacturers producing "hatches".. They are 4-door hatches, which back then was a Wagon. Can't blame em for calling it a wagon, even though it isn't one

Calling pr5 "wagon" is a marketing trick in order to avoid termin"hatchback", cuz hatchbacks are "cheap"
2002 Elantra 5 door is marketed as "sports sedan" for the same reason.
There's nothing wrong with driving a wagon. I wouldn't mind having Volvo T5-R and I would proudly call it wagon.
Right now I am driving "hot hatch", not "sport wagon" and I feel pity for all of you "wagon"owners

hatch, wagon, hatch, wagon, hatch, wagon, hatch, wagon....
whats in a name.....a rose by ANY other name is still a rose.
:{D
this is REALLY a case of symantics..... PATATO! PATATOE, TOMATO, TAMATOE!! (yes its not the correct spelling I was illustrating...its the way you PRONOUNCE the words)
if you do a search on the web for "automotive dictionaries" and go to just about ANY ONE, the terms Hatchback and Compact Stationwagon are nearly identical....and BOTH apply to the P-5. In some of them there is a seperate defination of Hatchback COUPE, which of course is when the car looks like a coupe but the rear trunk area and rear window lift as a unit to the storage area.

OK, look at the Ford Focus for a sec. They make a full "wagon" version of the Focus, complete with long boxy back end. Now look at the ZX5. Not a wagon, a hatchback, right? Hmmm...
I think the P5 is a hatchback because the car is actually SHORTER than the sedan version of the car, by quite a bit (8 inches). Wagons are traditionally LONGER than the equivalent sedan. That's actually the best argument I've heard for why it's a hatch and not a wagon.
Personally, I don't care what it's called--it's functional, is fun as hell to drive, and it looks cool. That's way more important than whether or not it's a wagon...

hey, i used to itch and argue with everyone that called it a wagon too... i was like, it's a damn 4 door hatchback, but then after time i realized it's a sport-wagon... which there is nothing wrong with that... it's one of the hottest little cars out and all the jealous fucus' and vibes can lick ***** or anyone else for that matter who says bad things about the p5 (granted it lacks hp, but that's almost all mazda cars)
