from a comment on the autoblog post about the concept:

so with that odd seating position, is my ass protected? think of the random tree branch you've run over that bounces up and hits your under carriage. well now that under carriage is your butt.

ouch...

ROLL OUT!

What's with the scorpion looking tail thing?! That just look ridiculous!! Damn the future, it's getting way outta hand.

_Kansei_ Oct 13, 2007 10:55 AM

Um that scorpion tail thing is.. your arms.

KrayzieFox Oct 13, 2007 11:17 AM

That's just weird .. but I would still love to drive one if it ever happened.

_Kansei_ Oct 13, 2007 12:35 PM

it really is to the point where you aren't driving the car.. you are wearing the car and it really is just a part of you. I mean it.. stimulates your BRAIN to give you feedback about the road.

wow

Heard something pretty funny last night I thought some of you might get a kick out of. So hope you enjoy it .. I know I did :D

First of all I feel it's necessary for everyone to know it was Homecoming weekend so I was pretty wasted for a good 90% of the day. Started drinkin at 7 AM, passed out around 2 PM for a couple hours, woke up and went to the game (which we won .. HOORAH!!), and came back with some buddies to celebrate the victory. A number of beer pong games go by, gallons and gallons of beer have already been consumed so you get the picture.

Anyway, I hear my remote beep at me and it says my proximity sensor warning went off. So I go outside and there's these three kids around my car (probably freshmen .. they looked really young but that's besides the point). They're peeking around and whatnot so I assume they're either a) impressed or b) gonna steal some shit.

Well as I'm walkin up to them I hear them talking about nonsense auto jargon (I hear somethin about a turbo, VTEC, some induction shit .. whatever right?) and I think to myself that this is probably gonna turn out to be a complete waste of my time. I walk up and they start askin a million freakin questions. "Duuuude, your car's sick .. you ever take it to the drag strip? I bet it's fast as hell ain't it?" Then another kid that was peeking through the hood opening asks "You got NAWS in here?" and the last one is just stumped completely and goes "What the hell is this thing anyway? Does it have VTEC?!"

So at this point I really just wanna laugh my eyes out and just tell them the truth. No, it's never been to the strip cuz it's slow as hell but thanks anyway. I don't have NAWS, and no it's not a Honda so VTEC is outta the questions. But then the beer in me starts talking and decides to go along with the story. I break out all sorts of nonsense, first telling them it runs low 10s 1/4 mile, it's twin turbo nitrous injected 550HP AWD badass Corvette & Viper eating machine, and it ends with me simply pointing at my simple SRI pipe & filter through the opening of the hood to tell them that's one of the turbos. BWAAAHAHAHAH!! I about pissed myself when they left, cuz they were all just awestruck by the end of it. Good times .. good times.

cornercarve98 Oct 15, 2007 02:05 AM

that's hilarious.

to the mazda concept: way to go for them. taking the bio form concepts from now to far lengths...and i just want a new pontiac g8 gt (6.0l v8) with a 6 spd stick. it would be waaaaay cool to drive, er, wear. and that random tree branch would hurt. but hey you could cut under semis and stuff. imagine nurburgring testing. as you fly by a 911, the passenger in the other car says to the driver "you just got passed by a suit."

J-Protege Oct 15, 2007 02:17 AM

I think by the time we have nano-sensing automotive 'suits', I sure as hell better be able to fly!

I mean, I would imagine a jetpack would be easier to design and function than that suit. Think about how strong it would need to be to survive accidents and road debis, never mind potholes, ouch.

If you guys actually read the description that is on one of the pics.. it makes the assumption that AI and advanced stability control has eliminated all accidents.

It's the only way it would actually be at all safe to pilot that.

J-Protege Oct 15, 2007 07:04 AM

So then that assumes all other drivers drive similar vehicles I would assume. No AI would save you from someone in a Semi running a red light.

Also, road imperfections would have to be eliminated to avoid a really uncomfortable ride.

Just saying though, and I don't think I'm alone, I'd rather be able to fly around then navigate the roads in body armor/car.

_Kansei_ Oct 15, 2007 07:35 AM

Dude we're talking 2057, of course road imperfections are eliminated ;)

But also yes.. in 2057, they assume that ALL vehicles on roads will have sophisticated AI. Even with the current pace of things it's a very reasonable assumption. We already have radar-enabled cruise control, and crazy accident avoidance systems that will do a number of things, including moving the brake pads closer to the rotors to decrease braking time, or as far as Volvo has taken it where the car can and will automatically apply the brakes, even STOP the vehicle.

And that's just what is available today, not even going into what is currently being researched.

J-Protege Oct 15, 2007 09:21 AM

Yeh, I guess the 50 year timeline can open up pretty much any 'what-if' doors it needs to.

Pretty hard to say what could or could not be possible in a quasi-scifi future :)
