Does anyone know how to enter the following: 099999 into a cell in Ms Excel 2002

I've done everything from format it into a Number & General but Excel overrides the 0 (zero) & gives me only 99999

 

type it in as '099999.

The ' will make the cell show exactly what you type in, however the spread sheet will no longer count the cell as a number...just a set of characters.

 

cool that works, but my only problem doing that is it leaves all those triangles in every cell I do like that.

I'm doing a wiring schedule & I'll have hundreds of those error marks cause most of my wires start with a Zero

 

First select the cell by right clicking it and then choose format cell. Then select text and hit ok now type in your numbers. Will work fine.

It shouldn't mess with anything. What are you worried that it will screw up? Or, you could just drop the zeroes off the front of the numbers.

 

mito7878 is right. i had to deal with that at work recently. right-click, formats cells, and choose text, not general.

 

LOL.. I thought you were going to ask about creating a pivot table or something like that.
