Thumbs up Manual or Automatic?

which do you prefer and which do you own?

me i prefer stick so i own stick, but the dealer really wanted to sell me automatic, probably because the price is like a grand more....but did anyone else have to wait to get stick, i waited for like 3 months for a stick shift to come in.....

I bought the only stick that was at any of the dealers in town at the time that I was looking. They said they werent getting that many manuals in and when they got them they were selling pretty quick. I prefer manual anyway, you get to control the revs and its just more fun.

Reasons for Auto

a few reasons why automatics MIGHT be better:

#1- you can have uninterrupted, um, "talks" with your g/friend.
#2- you can hold your beer and bag of crack at the same time.
#3- when chased by cops, it's easier to aim your 9mm

LOL i'm just kidding. i love the control of the manual, but i am a lazy bastard and hate shifting. yeah, i got the auto. i like to cruise, and auto enhances that!

Stick Shift

Like it was said before, stick shift is the only way to go for an auto enthusiast. You have more control of the car and how it drives.

I baught the 5sp and waited about two months because I wanted fully loaded and Yellow. WELL WORTH THE WAIT!

yeah you have a tendency of running off the road when aiming ... its better to just out run / out drive them using the manual ......

I much prefer the manual trans also, but most drivers aren't enthusiasts. I bet 70 to 80% of Proteges are sold with an automatic trans. That's OK with me though, because they have to pay more for the auto. I'd be screwed if more people wanted a manual, cause then they'd charge more for that.

Control

yeah, i do like the control better when i am driving stick, but as i said, i am LAZY. lazy lazy lazy. and price doesn't really matter down here. everything is marked up about $4000US from the msrp. $22k in the hole? hell, might as well make it $23k and take the auto.

but there was a time when all i wanted was stick.

now my honeys can "talk" to me without me having to shift in mid-"conversatin". LOL

I'M JUST KIDDING! i agree, auto is good, but stick is better.

Eric, exactly. I dont care about the 80% of drivers who dont care about their cars, and hence, they arent on here. Most of us are on here, because we love cars, and want to know more about them.
I don't want to start anything but I own an automatic tranny. Sometimes I wish it were standard but sometimes I like it. However, I suppose I fall into that 70-80%, but I certainly do care about my car. I still consider myself a car enthusiast. I love my car and want to learn more about it. I hope you didn't mean it the way that I, and possibly others, interpreted your statement but from my point of view this is how it appears. I understand that since I am 'on here' you probably don't consider me as one of those people but it still bothers me the way you wrote it. Lets all enjoy our Mazdas and not make unwanted remarks about some small components of our cars.

Thats cool. I intend to upgrade my car too. Not to race but just to have more fun with, more zoom zoom I guess. Plus I need the asthetics too.
I guess it is a bad subject for me because so many people around here tell me I wasted my money on an automatic, but I still love it.
Hell, maybe I can take the title of the most modified automatic in the city
