BUT, the city of New Orleans is below sea level and when the water in nearby Lake Ponchartrain rose and broke over the levy that is supposed to hold it back, the city was flooded and you are seeing the result of that on the news. Little attention, IMO, has been paid to the plight of those in Mississippi.
And I agree with Matty, taking bread, clothing, &tc if it's needed and esp. when the government is so irresponsibly slow to respond, is understandable.
TVs and guns? WTF, man.
If the Nat'l Guard sees anyone wading thru the streets looting TVs and PCs, shoot 'em in the ***. It's f'n ridiculous.

the things we do in situations like this are amazing! People sniping helicopters sent in to help people, I cant imagine why someone would do that. with all the war abroad ( ive seen it first hand in Iraq) the last thing we need is another war with ourselves on our own soil i can almost hear binladen laughing now.

You know I am getting fed up with all of these people wanting to blame Bush and the administration for what happened and for how long it took. The FEMA guy thinks you can just call up the National guard in a day. The Mayor says he's mad at the lack of support from the out side! Were the hell does he think the people are moving to? Hell if people want to be mad they should blame the Mayor and the Governor of Louisiana. They knew that the levies were not strong enough, yet never fixed it. They knew that they were going to need the National Guard. They are the ones that let the people down not the Bush Admin.
And how mad can you really be, you built your home and life in a soup bowl! You knew one day this would happen, so quit you bitching and rebuild.

i think the problem everyone has is that our weather prediction technology is much more effective than our government.
We've known the storm was going to hit N.O. for 3 days....3 days they had to prepare for what everyone knew would be devastating. Nothing was prepared in advance...just "get out and go"...after the storm hit.. "OH! now lets get supplies together and try to cobble together some form of aide"

I'm all for helping these people but at what point do you say enough is enough. Your right, they did know for days that it was coming. The poor had plenty enough time to get to some place safe. The old folks homes had enough time to get their people out but didn't act on it. Most of these people chosed to stay and ride it out and now they are bitching about not getting help fast enough. There was a reason they were told to leave! The government tried to go in the day after it all blew over, but they were forced back dew to the levies (?) breaking. Then they tryed to going but were shot at and physically beaten back. And why is it that some one is trying to make this a racial thing. My god there are white people dead too. Not to mention that Mississippi was a direct hit and they too have dead. This whole thing make me so mad I could bite threw nails. The fault belongs to the city and it's managers for not putting inplace a better system, not the Federal Government. Bush doesn't have a dang thing to do with this. And neither does FEMA.

I agree with about 90% of what you said/ranted. The only problem is that there was NO FEMA ( which is "federal government" ) plan set in place PRIOR to this happening. The levy breaks were inevitable, this shouldn't have been a surprise. The levys were designed to hold Cat2 hurricanes. We knew for 3 days this would be a cat5 storm and the levys would go. SOMETHING should have been put in place 3 days before the storm hit so that the SECOND the wind is past these people food and supplies are hitting ground.
It's like seeing a bomb fall...you've got 3 days before it hits the ground. You say to everyone "RUN here comes a bomb"!! Some people don't run but 99% do. The bomb hits...there's mass destruction THEN you decide..."now we need to get our heads together and try to think of how to get relief to these people"....you had 3 days to do this BEFORE the bomb hit.
The reason this has turned into a racial issue is because N.O. is the center of the media attention due to the reaction and attitudes of the people....those people happen to be 95% black. The people are upset, they are making a stink and the news likes the drama.
My wife is a pyshcology major maybe she can explain the whole "permanent victim" mentality better than I can.

now some people are complaining that they want a real meal. they dont want MRE (meals ready to eat) hell when i was in the desert I ate mre's all the time they are actually pretty good, some like em some dont the point is the military eats them for sustanance ( dont know how to spell)in fighting for "OUR" freedoms. why is there problem with eating them, they are getting fed but still complaining???? WTF

It really sucks that people would actually be shooting at the people coming in and trying to help and rescue the. Last night's news said that that there was exchange of fire with ~6 people and they actually killed all of them. Sad that we have to send in the National Guard to protect the city from its own people!!!

Yeah, its pretty horrible with whats going on down there and all people do is fight and complain! And the media isnt helping anything by pointing fingers and making things about race. I also heard that with all the sewage overflowing and dead bodies that disease is now a concern, so if people dont want to leave, than they're just going to die! And than somebody else will be blamed for that! But either way, theirs still those people who are cooperating and those people who are helping, so I guess all that can be done for now is to do what you can to help and hope for the best because its all far from over....
