that's stupid... in my civic I never got pulled for 20% all around. I've got a feeling that cop singled you out.

if it's a factory option you can't get fined...

If it was a factory option, you should bring the ticket back to them and ask them to remove the tint and pay for the ticket. Of course they will look at you and laugh...

My suggestion is to see what your area limit is on tinting...Do you have 15% all around? Most areas only allow 35%. Then it is really up to you if you want to change the %.

the limit around here is 35% and my civic didn't come with 20% from the factory (it came from Wal-Mart I put it in) I also had two other rides with factory tint, one had an extra layer of 20% on it and I've never been hassled. Like I said, I think you got singled out.

i suppose you can still get fined depending on the level of a$$#@!% cop you get. however, most cops/judges aren't going to take the time to look up or call and see if so and so's whatever year protege had the factory option of tint, so many cars do who's to say who does and who doesn't. so...you should take that little piece of paper and roll it up real tight and shove it...i mean TELL them it was a "factory option." ...and they should pay to have it removed if they are so hard on about it.

I don't think 15% tint is a "factory option" on the Protege, so I'm not sure why that even came up.

Seriously, if the original poster added the tint, I don't see how this is any ground for complaining. If the tint laws in your state say you can't have 15% tint, and you choose to put it in your car, your tint is illegal and they can bust you for it. You made that choice, so you deal with the consequences.

This is exactly why I have the maximum LEGAL tint on my car.

Follow up

I was looking at the laws for the state of PA and they dont even state the limit. The one law says as long as you can see in its legal and the other says that if it falls under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 205. Which means it can be as low as 20%. I know mine is 15% but I know tons of people in my area with the same darkness tint. The thing is cops go by this table called Table X which claims the tint has to be 70%. WHY EVEN TINT?????!!!!!!!!! I don't see what the problem was with my tint its not like a broke a driving law all i had was darker tint. The reason I have the tint to begin with is to hide my stereo equipment from stray eyes. Someone hlpe me out I don't know if I should take off the tint or not. They guys said if he sees me again he will cite me but I dont know what my chances are of seeing him again. This cop is known to be disliked by many other teenagers because he always picks them out. I'm wondering if I was a 40 yr old man if he would have stopped me. I doubt it.

you have no right to complain man, that is like saying you were going 70 in a 55, you are breaking the legal limit so you can get a ticket. You chose to get them done so you gotta take the consequences. Sorry, but that is life.

here in tx there are a ton of p5's that have come with tint from the factory....they're brand new, and the tint is so dark you can't see through it at all so YES they do come with tint from the factory and i'd tell the dealer to pay for it since they were the once to put it on.

So what happened with you were busted? He just gave you a fine and that's it? Do they demand that the tint has to be taken off, or can you just pay the fine and continue to get away with it?

He just told me to take it off and if he saw me again he would cite me. So basically I kind of got away easy. But now I'm paranoid that I will get pulled over again for it. I mean it would be easy to find me since I have the only protege with tint and I have one of the loudest systems in the whole area haha.

I'm right on the edge of deciding what tint % I want. I really want 20% all around, but I don't want to be hassled by cops. I'm not sure how much trouble it would be, I think luck is associated with it, and I'm not sure if I feel like taking the risk. I prefer the look of 20% all around to 35% in the front and 20% in the back, but if I ever do have to take the 20% off the front, it will be expensive and I will be very pissed! Besides the tint, I don't blast my system unless I'm on a highway and I don't race or otherwise break traffic laws.
