Hey Canadians! Cable or Satellite?
So we just got our new place and are trying to decide whether to go cable or satellite for our channel lineup.
Who are you guys with and what do you like/dislike?

I've got cable. Shaw sucks my ***. I hate them. But satellite sucks too....the packages are bloody expensive and I don't want a lot of that ****.
I know a lot of people who have Direct TV (grey market) and they like it. But with that, you don't get any local stations.
TV sucks....just go drive in the Pro more

I've got Rogers Cable here in my parents house.
Its much easier and cheaper to hook up multiple T.V.'s
If you get a dish, i think you have to buy a receiver for each T.V. which would add up to a lot of cash if you have quit a few T.V.'s.

i've got digital cable and my friends have legal and non-legal satelites...
i prefer the cable, mainly cause i'm lazy and i don't want to have to "clean off the dish" plus i don't like all the wires. their dish has been out a few times during storms too...plus i got a deal with the digital cable and cable interent....
as for programming, i don't find much difference between the two. if you have illegal cards, you're not paying anything for pay per view etc but your card gets zapped alot and its a pain the ****...unless you want an excuse to drive over and get it fixed all the time...
my vote is for cable.

Sounds like there's people that like and hate both. I think i'm leaning towards satellite just cuz i'm not a fan of Shaw.

What I have (and love) is Bell ExpressVu. My receiver is a 5100PVR which allows me to record approx 20hours on an internal hard drive.
I'd recommend Bell over Starchoice, the programming and price are about the same...but since Bell is the same equipment as Dish, all the "aftermarket devices" work. With SC you don't have the option.
Digital cable sucks. Most of the channels (here in Edmonton) are not digital and the quality blows goats. With BEV the picture and sound quality are great.

I was leaning towards Bell before I posted this thread and by the looks of it, they're the way to go. Especially if down the road I decide to go grey market somehow..

Sure it's grey market, but the canadian supreme court has basically ruled that any receivable radio/satellite transmissions from a foreign country/company cannot be charged a fee or be prosecuted for the use of reception devices. Unless DirecTV established a *canadian* company, they cannot do anything about it.

The whole key is that the signal is encrypted.
I know that several sat dealers in Canada are fighting this, but it doesn't look good. I don't know for sure if any dealers have been charged yet or not. But I know most of the Canadian dealers on the net shut down because of this, and that PayPal accounts were frozen.
Unless something has changed since I last was reading about the ruling, this is how it is today.
