Help! I'm surrounded...

by idiots... I guess this probably happens everywhere. People who do/know less get paid more... Where i work they split the designers into 3 knowledge(pay) levels... I, II, III - I am currently a II, but i have III's asking me questions ALL the time (all field designers were brought in as III's automatically, probably b/c they are making $3+more/hr) - anyway...

example:
"I got this form thats referencing one you did in mac? what is an hqx file? I just need the fonts, can you email me the MAC fonts so i can load them on my pc?" what?! - umm no

"When i open up the "zip" file, all i see is a "sit" file, whats that?" then you have to explain that the pc just sees it as a "zip" file, its actually a stuffed/binhexed mac file... which usually gets a "huh?"

blah, blah, blah...

nothing new....

I'm a salary grade 3 at my job...we have salary grade 4's that DO the same thing i do, but get paid more to do it......they ask me stupid questions all the time

I found one universal theme that may help you

LEARN TO KISS ***, or just deal with your predicament....

I have noticed two things working both shoreside and at sea:

1) If you are really good at what you do, it is sometimes harder to get a promotion because the guy who you are making look good doesn't want to lose that.

2) Truly monumental idiots are promoted because they can do less damage higher up (not always, but a lot of the time).

Cynical maybe, but true. However I have also seen that eventually you will be noticed and receive your just reward (that's my sunny disposition talking!). Hopefully at least a few years before retirement!

Barry, just remember that someday, you will be the guy making more and doing less and having to ask them young whippersnappers questions that they will think are stupid and post your stupid questions on a forum with comments about how old and stupid you are.

And when that happens, don't feel insulted, because you'll be making more and doing less than them. So who gives a f*ck what they think!

has nothing to do with age! and a lot of it is not READING the Bold print in emails sent out

"my software is doing this, why?" .... umm did you read the email from this morning? and alot of these people have been using computers for 20+ years... and will ask very *basic* questions - as in... if they delete the icon off their desktop, they think the program is gone 4 good...
