He Was 113 Years Old
Incredible life...
One of oldest living Americans dies
The fellow was born in 1889 and his life touched 3 centuries... from rural electrification, the invention and proliferation of automobiles, the invention of radio, antibiotics, through 2 world wars, moon landings-- Nearly everything that we know in our lives today he knew in its infancy; from the very start of it all. He was too old to be drafted into World War I.
What would that be like? To see all of this; all of things that come to pass as generations go by, and you live it all.
I find it amazing to have seen so much life, and wish we forwarded greater admiration for older people. That unfortunately doesn't seem to be a priority for Western Civilizations who's focus tends to be exclusively on youth.

the oldest lady (aome japanese lady) just died a week or two ago. she's from hawaii. well, she was...
the suckiest part would be to watch ur kids pass b4 u (assuming they don't live as long as u) i don't think ANY parent should have to go thru that, no matter how old...

Amazing indeed. I dunno when the photo was taken but he sure looks healthy for such an old age. People are living longer than before nowadays, and with the advent of newbiotechnologies hopefully, everyone can live a life long as him in the near future.

they did a spot on the old japanese lady, and it was funny cause the older she got, the more she wanted to try stuff. i think after she turned 80 or something, she tried marijuana. now that's cool. a freakin old lady burning a blunt on her front porch with her great great great grandkids... i think she even tried riding a harley too. i guess when ur reaching the end, who gives a damn, huh?

Sweet!
You said it, onehawaiian!
As said, I sometimes am unhappy about our collective society's obsession with youth, but never have been against keeping a youthful mentality, regardless of your chronological age. I believe, in fact, that this is one of the characteristics that keep people going even when your physicality will no longer allow you to do the things you used to enjoy when younger. That older Japanese woman toking out-- That's awesome!
And that's also another thing I think is especially cool about Asian culture: They have long held deep respect for older people. It's an honorable example Western culture could learn from, in my opinion.
