Forums to move to new hardware in the near future
You might have noticed a few issues with the forums lately (database errors, timeouts, etc.) These are due to problems we've had with the servers that run the forums. We've been at work acquiring new hardware to run the forums, and we are just about ready to move them.
Tuesday, November 6, at 10:30AM, we will transfer the database & files to the new hardware. Because of the size of the database, it will take several hours to complete the transfer, and the forums will be unavailable during this time. The downtime is scheduled to last until 4PM the same day, although it will probably not take quite that long.

We also noticed a multi-day outage and the forum coming back without any fanfare.
It sucks when the site is just totally down (rx7club and rx8club were of course also down) and the only way we know to contact you guys is via a private message on here. No one was even sure if you guys (I use a plural because I don't even know if "cars2007" is a name more than one person uses or not) knew about the outage.
The site never really feels slow, it's just unreliable. Can't wait to be on new hardware! Is the database being moved to a separate, central database server or something? I guess I don't have any right to know but as an IT Sysadmin it's just something I like knowing about :P

The site will have multiple web frontends and a powerful database on separate hardware. When the site is in our data center, it will be monitored by an automated tool we use, so if anything crops up we should catch it quick.
We're going to move it tomorrow at 10:30AM.
