dilema dilema dilema...

so i bought my bh protege b/c it was reliable and nice and had a/c and could carry alot of stuff and enough room for friends and stuff... and i was pleasantly suprsed to find that the car was also pretty fun to drive and seems easy to work on as well (have not done very much work on it actually...). so nice car right?

well today i saw a really nice chevy covair... my absolute dream car!! in good condition. it will probably roll thru inspection but it is an old car. fun but will need work and parts are gonna be a b!tch to find. but it's a fricken covair!! a car so fun to drive that it was banned!! f*ck ralph nader!! i want this car!!

so the dilema is this... practical protege? or a dream machine covair? what would yall do?

price is about the same... i work alot and go to skool as well so time is precious... but man the car rolls and pretty nicely. it's an old car though and it will need work as it comes up... covairs are not popular so parts will be really challenging to find... i just dunno.

Oh, man, I love Corvairs, especially the later ones (65-69).

If it were me, I'd keep the Pro, and maybe sell off something else to get the Vair. I don't think the Vair would make much of a daily driver. Old cars always need something. But look around and see if there's a way to have your cake & eat it too. If you want the Vair bad enough, you'll find a way. But if you already have a reliable car you like, keep it. They're hard to come by.

Years ago, I gave up 2 fun cars (78 Nova SS and 71 Electra convertible) to get one practical one (84 Mazda Sundwner pickup). Hated to do it, but it did make life easier. I really miss that Electra, though.

I agree with Mark....only get the Corvair if you can manage it as a SECOND car....a TOY to play with.....

my left kidney is on ebay

seriously, i dunno... i do not drive much anyways... just rainy days and winter. oh and also to carry my mountian bike or go on a big trip where i gotta drive people. last year i drove about 5k miles. most of them in the winter.

the a/c is really nice though, plus knowing the car will start every morning and the extra cash in my pocket so i can actually buy some food... like mark said, maybe there will be a future covair... when i am ready for that dream toy.

what would others do in my shoes?
