The Formula one Drivers.
Did anone see this the other day?? I just caught the last little bit of it, but Goddam it was good, or soI thought anyways. I think it was crazy that there was this documentary about F1 drivers who were killed on the track. The one that weirded me out the most was the footage of Roger Wiliamson's crash where he burned to death at the Dutch Grand Prix in 1973. It was his first GP start.

Seen it.

It's been on SPEED about 5 times, but I keep watching it anyway. Not out of morbid fascination, as I could do without seeing people die, but just to see things that I wasn't alive to see. Hearing the interviews with Revson and Cervert, and Hailwood; all good stuff. The commentary by David Hobbs is nice too; he having been there and raced with all of these guys puts a nice personal spin on such elite events.

That really was a dark time for motor racing in general. Tire technology was lagging behind the power outputs of cars. The cars were eclipsing the designs of circuits around the world, and safety response time was a terrible afterthought. Drivers died simply because no one was there who could help them.

I'm always drawn to that era of motor racing due to the bravery and exceptional skill of these drivers, but I'm always reminded that almost none of them survived.
