Go with the manual.....this way you won't regret it later on in life, and then you'll wish to chnage your tranny, and waste more money hehe

i find auto way too boring

and when i drive my friends auto....my left leg just feels too awkward and uncomfortable just resting there. I also keep my hand on the stick hehe, and when I'm thinking of going into 3rd gear...hehe I try to and realize the stick doesn't go sideways and I just end up going into neutral

and then I figure...hey might aswell do a neutral drop....cuz its not my car...and my friend doeasn't know any better, so I rev up and then drop it into D.....lol....jokes....

just be thankful that youre not like my friend who can't even drive an auto properly...first time i went into his car with him....he asked me which pedal is which.....and what he has to do to reverse...and while he was reversing..he was confused to which way he turns the wheel...lol

it was a laugh to see him tho

I just got my p5 2 days ago, my first manual, and really its alot more fun than auto, it keeps you interested and awake while driving.

Its like compare watching a movie (auto tran) and playing a video game (manual,) you can jsut watch a movie and sit back and let it take you wherever, or you can take control and do whatever you want. Just more interesting IMO. (off topic, but play grand theft auto 3, its pure evil mayhem.)

If you just want to cruise and look good or are just an audiophile then just get auto, but if you are into driving manual rocks. Besides, ive been driving mine 2 days for maybe 1.5 hrs a day and ive gotten a handle on it pretty well considering its my first time driving manual.

The automatic is weak.........last week!!!!

I feel that some companies make autos that are just as good (for performance) as a standard......but Mazda is not one of them....the auto saps all the power out of the 2.0L. Honda has a better set up with their small 4 cyclinder & autos.

If you your using your car just to get around the city and you could care less about acceleration then get the auto.....but if you enjoy pushing the engine to it's limits then get a standard....oh yeah and if your thinking about trading it in the near future then you really might want to swallow your pride and get an auto.

Interesting comment... Auto has higher resale value is what I take this to mean ... but nobody here would buy one. The dealers must be giving the Automatics that they have on the lots away to get rid of them, if the opinions here are representative of the typical person in the market for a P5.... My point is that manual is not the best choice for 'all' people, for a number of reasons. That's why they make (and sell) Automatics.

yeah could you imagine a 90 year old lady power shiftin and chirpin the tires on the way to bridge club. They can't even handle automatics, unless by automatic you mean a younger driver ferrying them around

I say buy the man...

Atleast until you've experianced driving out of South Florida(worst vaca ever) b/c of a hurricane for 12 hours in bumper 2 bumper traffic.

At which point the idea of having to push a clutch and change gears diminishes slightly

Sorry guys I just have to call it like I see it!

Man for fun cars, Auto for daily cars in my books for now on...
(even tho in a vacation sintuation the Man for funzies would ahve been taken along anywho)

Should I take the plunge and go for the manual? Is it forgiving enough for a newbie?
lets put it this way.. i didn't know jack about driving a standard when i got my p5, now i can shift as smooth as an auto, heal-toe, etc. it just takes time, it is totaly worth it to get a standard, so much fun!!! with the extra 1000 you can spend on mods!

auto = NO!

I was the same way when I first bought my P5. I only drove about 1/2 hour with my sister-in-laws standard, so I pretty much learned on my own with my P5. Im sorry to say that I still cant shift as smooth as a auto all the time. Sometimes I shift very smoothly, other times its jerky. Also, I havent learned how to heal/toe yet. How did you learn how to heal/toe? I dont know anyone that can teach me, so does anyone know a website that has tutorials on it (like video tutorials?) I know watching videos wont teach me, but Ive only read about heal/toeing, I havent seen exatly what is done. Any help would be great

Not video, but this is a good site: http://www.turnfast.com/tech_driving/driving.lasso

Start at the beggining and read it all... but if you are not patient you can click on the different sections to the left. It has some good information there.
