Need help from 1st Gen Experts

** Hey Bruce, please don't remove this thread, I need some help from those guys from Ney Jersey **

Hi Guys,

I am having problems with my protege. I think I have to replace the starter and I have no pictures, location or diagrams of it. And I've never done that before either....

Click to read my problem

*************************************************

Ok.. I did the search and that's what i figure:

My starter DIED !!

That's the situation: my car has been having difficulties starting in the mornings... I first thought it was the battery... then I bought a new battery. Lately, I've been hving the same problem again: slow starts --> Bad Alternator, I figured.

But since the car was running ok (not perfectly, but running) I never bothered about changing the alternator.....

Now the big problem: this morning I went to drive my car and only CLICKS !!

I first thought it was the battery.. I got my other car and I tried to jump start the Protege.... It didn't work !!

I had the idea it could be the starter.. I then came to ProtegeClub and read about it. I still believe it is the Starter..

Could someone more experienced help me out ??

Does that really sounds like a bad starter ??
(wow.. I checked the fuses... they are ok)

And if that confirms... how difficult is to change that ??

Any how-to ??

Any tips ?? Anything AT ALL ??

Maybe some pictures ???

Thanks in advance.. sincerely.

BB

I would check your cables, and make sure that everything is wired corretly. My reasoning. I work in Speedy's, and we have a car there, first gen MR-2, that my boss wanted to fix up for a while. The car has been sitting still for many weeks, until it started snowing, so we had to move it. I was told to start the car, and as I turned the key, I began to hear these fast clicking noise. So my boss got his battery charger, and the car started. Then a few days layer, my boss wanted to change the battery on the car, so it would not happen again, and as he removed one of the connectors, he broke it off, and had to rewire it. After that, he could not start it again, and it still makes those fast clicks. So my suggestion, is to check the wiring - with a good multi-meter for grounds. If not that, then I would go after the starter. Goodluck.
