Tranny Trouble

whats up guys...i have an 07 mazda3 hatch with 112XXmiles on it.

for the past 2 months i have noticed that when accelerating up to cruising speed (50-60mph) in traffic 5 gear grinds a little bit every once and a while. this does not happend if i go through the gears 1 - 5 but when under heavy acceleration in 1st and 2nd (sometimes 3rd) and then put it into 5th (bypassing 4th). i have done this in other manual cars that i have owned in the past with out any problems

i brought it to the stealership today because it is under warrenty (plus i bought the extended) to see what they would say.

just got the call saying there is damage to 5th and that is why the grinding every once and a while and that they will have to keep the car a week or so to fix the damage.

my questions are:

1. will this be covered under warrenty (like i assume it will be)?

2. how the hell is this my fault? are mazda tranny's that poorly built? its not like i do this every time i drive (and yes i know how to drive a manual :P) but only every once and a while.

3. has anyone heard of this happening before?

thanks for the help fellas...i have to go back tonight and pick up the loaner car. just curious if i have a battle ahead of me.

matt

Probably an isolated incident. A part was likely mismanufactured or misinstalled at the factory--it happens. Should be completely covered by the warranty.

My Miata started leaking oil at about 8K miles, took it in, the camshaft guides (shims?--whatever) had been mismanufactured so they swapped them out, I paid $0, and never had a problem with it again.

Yeah **** happens, they gave you a rental to drive and such, right? Good luck getting the car back better than ever!

Just to remind you that it could be worse:
My mom is going through tranny crap with her 07 altima, but worse. It had it's transmission replaced at 750 miles, the transmission control module at 900 miles, and now at 4900 miles, another new transmission. If this doesn't fix it, Nissan NA has to buy back her car under CT law.. and she said she'll never buy another nissan again.. she's had quite a few, from a Datsun 510 and 280zx to a Maxima, 3 altimas (03 05 and 07), etc... to top it off, the dealer that her car got towed to by roadside assistance (they tow to the closest) isn't the dealer she bought her car from so they won't give her a loaner or rental! Now that's a crap warranty..
