A dual exhaust would be ineffective for a 2.0 L 4 cylinder engine. It has the appearance factor, but you would be gaining no extra horsepower.

Let me know if you would like me to go more in depth.

Single because two pipes weight twice as much.

^ haha, good call. - i figure its more a matter of taste? if you like the look... and dont care about performance gains/losses, go for the dual exhaust

Just like Krazy sayz ... you don't wanna put a dual exhaust on a 2L engine ... there's not enough compression to push that amount of exhaust through your system. If anything, it'll hurt your performance.

Stick with a single exhaust, and maybe upgrade the headers for better bang for your buck.

there is no such thing as a "true dual" exhaust on a 4cyl engine unless you custom build your own header also.

Single exhaust is much better. Stick with something in the 2.3" diameter with mandrel bends and then pick up a header from Kargoboy and be done with it. Work on something else...like cutting weight.

Not if you use small enough piping. It's about keeping the speed of exiting exhaust gasses as high as possible. Too small, it's restrictive.. too large, the speed slows too much.

It would be a TON of custom work to get a true dual exhaust.. you just gotta ask yourself if it is worth it for the look. You could do the piping to almost sorta a little bit give it a subaru rumble (but only if you listen to just a single exhaust outlet), but still not quite the same since subaru's get their sound because of the firing order (two pistons fire at the same time, then wait a while, then the other two fire at the same time).

I don't think inline engines should have dual exhausts...but thats just me.

Any particular reason you want to go custom? Have you just not found something that strikes your interest already offered in the aftermarket?

Actually it's not about speed as much as you'd think. It's about the exhausts suction actually pulling more air into the c.c. This is the issue when building an NA exhuast. When you turbocharge you have a similar delima in trying to get more exhaust out faster but you have a compressor forcing air in so all you want to do with your exhaust is open it up as much as possible to prevent it from choking itself out.

not cool, you quoted me making two grammatical errors. I should disconnect my exhaust after the downpipe and see if the weird surges of power I get are exhaust related.. it's all 2.375" ID but there's plenty of bends and crap who knows.

yeah that suction stuff I always forget because .. well when you see a diagram/animation of a 4-stroke piston engine they don't usually talk about overlap.. I need to read into this more

Umm actually I have found a few I like but there is a custom shop near by where I live and I hear they are really good. I thought I would give them a shot. They said if I don't like their work or if I want something changed they will re do it.
