Next Mod done

After all the input i got from my 'risks' post (thank you all btw) i ended up going with the K&N Intake and i got it installed this weekend! man, even if the actual increase in torque and power isn't much, it *feels* nice and sounds alot meaner!

but after yanking all that 'junk' of an OEM intake out, i kinda can't beleive it is only like 5HP. That crap was about one of the most complex looking intakes i've ever seen!

i think next steps will be cat-back, then header, then Cosworth Intake Mani.

I was wondering though... i remember reading on here that the protege auto tranny could only handle like 164 HP before it would crap out. I tried searching for it, but i can't find that thread again. or what i'm really looking for, which is how much power/torque can the 3's automatic handle if i decide i want to ADD power instead of just freeing some up. IE, some FI or a nitrous shot. Not that i will, just MAYBE...

and flame me if you want for getting the auto, i have my reasons. i've driven stick since long before i was old enough to drive. I just got tired of sitting in an hour to hour and a half of stop & go twice a day, etc. etc. otherwise i would LOVE to have had a stick again

i was thinking about getting an intake in my 3 ... But then thought...that i have to make sure that dont want to buy a turbo kit...cuz the hiboost turbo kit come with a replacement intake and manifold for the turbo kit. But if i did an intake i would probably get a injen intake.

From what I have heard from other people ... Injen pretty much takes the cake. I wouldn't even considering anything, but Injen or K&N because those are the two that have those water resistant filter sock things.

But I also live in Wisconsin ... where is rains and snows like F in crazy.

I don't have the hydroshield yet, but the filter is set high in the driver side fender. I've been through a lot of heavy rain and some snow/sleet without any issue

Plus it starts at 3" dia then goes to 2.5" just before the MAF, it also has a real nice sound at WOT

Most of the water leaks down from the top.

I see where you're coming from.

In most cases this is true, but where the filter is located in the fender-well it's pretty well protected from water coming down from the top, and wetting the filter. Now I haven't had a issue with water yet..... but only time will tell.

Water problem with CAI

If you're careful this won't happen. I drove in a hellacious storm last August, went into a puddle that was much deeper than I realized, andsucked water into my K&N. Car died instantly, and the result was a cracked block and bent rods. Three weeks later I had a new engine. It was all covered by insurance, but in the end I took the tube off and raised the filter about 6 inches, and it's fine. I would still recommend it to any 3 owner.

You know you can get a hydroshield for super cheap, and it doesn't have any negetive impact at all.

Why even risk it, you can buy a hydroshield for like $20.

Kargoboy, do you still sell them?
