Could it be slower?

Hey what's up everyone ? I just recently installed a Fujita CAI on my 07 hatch. It seems to me that the car's Acceleration is considerably slower than it was with the stock box. Stock, the car felt punchy and would break the tires loose ( Sport or Auto) off the line ,but not so much after the install. Today for instance I was following a 2 door Bentley down rt. 50. Sailing along around 75mph, he punched it so I did, everything was fine till around 90-95 mph. The car seemed to not have much power to accelerate the only thing it seemed to do was make that loud intake suction noise that I find a bit getto. It reminded me of a big growling dog that runs from cat's. Could the car be slower?

It probably is. While an intake brings in more cold air, it also brings in more air than you car can handle, stock. From what I've seen online and personally, cold air intakes actually decrease horsepower. The only time they might help is high up in the RPM's. Also it depends on what kind, short ram, or full kit. In my opinion, CAI's fall under the "all show, no go" category. Just a thought though.

On the 3, it's all about the piping diameter. It sounds like you bought the F5 as your car will tend to be more sluggish with the F5 than the F2. The MAF on your car doesn't really like too much air.
That said, any CAI will move your power band more toward the top of the RPM band.
And get used to the 'ghetto' because that's the sound an intake makes.
You aren't going to sound like, or beat a new Bentley even if it does weigh 4500lbs.

Thanks for explaining why the car has less Punch at low RPM. The car also had no *** @ 6k rpm w/cai; As for the Bentley, I know it would "Eat Up" the Madza,no question there!

Anyone want to Buy a Fujita F5 CAI [/B]? It has 260 miles on it and has been on my car for 3 days

Less power? That's odd... My protege felt a bit quicker, even more so near redline in 2nd and 3rd gear.

I didn't notice much of anything on the lower rpm range, but the Protege has never been quick in that range.

i dunno which intake i have the F5 or F2 but with mine i feel like i don't notice much increase in hp unless it's really cold out, then it makes a pretty big difference between 3-6.5rpm's.

p.s. you drive 260miles in 3 days?? whoa

I'm not sure what the diff. is between the F5 & F2. Most likely it's the diam. of the piping. I took my F5 back off for the winter and in doing so I did notice that the car comes off the line faster but pulls less in the 3500- 6750 rpm range. I guess it's all in what your looking for, I was told a short ram air performs better in the low rpm range. Anyway to make a long story short my car has 9101 miles on it. The dealer called after droping it off for service and said the motor was DONE! I never told them about the CAI. I'm now filing paper work under Md's Lemon Law. Wish me luck !
