2008.5 Mazda3 not shifting right/over-accelerated in cruise

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with their car. We've had a 2008.5 Mazda3 for over a year now. It took a year to have our first problem (car would unlock/lock itself, and arm when it shouldn't have been arming) fixed at the dealership with multiple visits and them saying nothing was found everytime.

We've noticed for a long time that the car seems laggy and like you need to "Fred Flinstone" the car, it then feels like it downshifts hard and you go forward really fast. The car won't shift correctly and feels like it's in the wrong gear or not going into the proper gear. It feels like it's not shifting at the speeds it should, and not downshifting when it should. One occurance happened when I got off the highway one time and I watched the gear on the dash change from 4 to 3 back to 4 then 3.

The other problem happened when my husband was driving and had the cruise set at 80km. We were going up a small hill and all of a sudden the car started revving really loud and actually went up over 100km's until he had to hit the brake to turn it off. This is a major safety issue and we keep getting told nothing is wrong/found.

They do all of these 'tests' on the car, but it just seems like km's are added and our gas used during the appt's. Feels like we spent all that money on a new car to not have those problems and now we're having them and are thinking we should have just bought used.

If anyone else has heard of this problem or is having it, can you please let us know?

Thanks.

I assume the dealer would have reflashed (reprogrammed) the transmission if there were any updates, and this is something you can ask him to verify if it's not been done already.

From your gear shift lights changing though... it is possible that the manual shift buttons are mis-aligned or something allowing them to be pressed when they shouldn't be. You may want to try using the 'manual' shift mode to see if it works correctly.

I am having a similar problem. My 07 shifts and shakes when I am on the highway and then jumps from 2 to 1 then back again almost like the accelerator was hit when I am clearly not pushing it. It scares me to be going along at 70mph and have entire car shake. I have had my car in a performance shop several times and even though they are trying I am coming up with no answers to why this is happening. I am getting any codes there are no check engine lights and no other issues with the car.
