Post what do y'all think about my price

Hi. I am in Dallas, TX and am negotiating a price on the GT hatchback with the following options
1. cassette player, 2. compass & auto dim, 3) all weather floor mats, 4. cargo net, 5. wheel locks, 6. cargo tray, 7. door edge guards, 8. moon roof/cd changer/bose, 9. moon roof deflector.

I have negotiated a price of 21K + taxes. Am i being suckered or is it a good price? Also the dealer is asking me pay the advertisement fees, is this normal?
Thanks guys

kalambur

Kalambur. I don't want to sound rude or anything but do you look foreign or not speak english clearly? I think the dealer is ripping you off BADLY.

I used to work for dealerships and know what they are doing to you. If you'd like I'll give you my phone number and we can discuss this one the phone since theres a lot of information to go over.

No, the cassette player would be an option. CD is standard.

Kalambur, I don't think you're getting ripped off as badly as others are stating. You can go to this site: www.kbb.com, and calculate dealer invoice and MSRP prices. For the Mazda 3 you've described:
Invoice = $20,215
MSRP = $21,775
I'd try to negotiate $300 over invoice ($20,515), and would walk out if they wouldn't go below $500 over invoice ($20,715).

Regarding your question "Is it normal for the dealer to ask for advertisement fees?". Yes, it's normal for them to try, but it's not set in stone that you should pay.

KBB sucks *****

I have DETAILED information on Mazda pricing...I work for Ford and I participate in S-plan

if you think that the difference between invoice and MSRP is $1500, you have probably been ripped by a dealer yourself

invoice is more like $18,800 with those options...21K is about right for MSRP....if you pay MSRP you are a chump.

Exactly. I wouldn't ever pay ANYTHING over invoice. Dealer holdback ittself is enough profit for each dealer to pay the salesman.

Dealer holdback on that car would be $420 NO MATTER WHAT THEY SELL IT FOR. $100 to the salesman for doing the footwork and the rest is dealer profit.

I could go on and on, but as someone with dealership experience from both sides of the desk I can tell you right now he's getting raped because he's foreign.

p.s. some of you regulars know how many cars I buy in a year.....i've got a little experience at doing this...

Sathy, send me a private message with your phone number and I'll call you or you can call me.

www.edmunds.com

It will give you the Invoice price for the vehicle including all of the options you have listed. generaly speaking, $200-$300 over invoice is a fair price, but with the mazda 3's Price point and the available numbers you should be able to find a dealer ship willing to sell it to you at invoice cost.

Good Luck

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/mazd...tmv.1.1.Mazda*

I ran it myself.

With options including destination charge to Dallas.
Invoice cost $20,275
MSRP cost $21,850

If you cut back on the options you would save $2,125 on MSRP or $1,780 on the invoice cost.

you should NEVER buy a car for ANYTHING over invoice. I usually buy cars UNDER invoice but invoice is my limit. If I can't get it at invoice I move on.

That's what I tell people upfront....and after I've walked from just about every dealer in Alabama some of them realize I mean business.

I also go back to the dealerships I walked from in the new car and show them my paperwork at invoice so the next time if I come in and say I'll buy a car they know not to jerk me around.

I can walk into my mazda dealer right now (they hate me) and get invoice on anything I want...no haggling. When they know you're serious and educated you get what you want.

Macdaddy, do you have any facts to back up your statements about the inaccuracy of kbb and edmunds?

the prices you see on kbb and edmunds are close to dealer costs but there is SO much more money hidden from the public...holdback, incentives, and advertising cash.

While the listed invoice price is what the dealership LOANS it's not what they actually pay...after all of their incentives they clear a lot more than you think.

p.s. not to mention the bonuses paid out by manufacturers for hitting specific units sold each month. Suppose a dealership sells 500 cars in a month they may get an EXTRA 10% on their holdback for every vehicle PREVIOUSLY sold. That's thousands paid only to the dealership, not the salesman or F&I guys.
