Weird A/C problem...

2004 3i bought used from a dealer in November. The a/c kicks on by itself any time the ventilation control is set anywhere from full floor to full defrost. I had always heard a sound during start up, but didn't realize it was the a/c until the weather got warmer. This doesn't happen when the dash vents are used. Any thoughts? Thanks

It's how most new cars work, nothing to be worried about. I just wish the car notified us by turning on the A/C light.

Thats a new one for me. The a/c in my wife's 2000 Sienna turns on when in the defrost positions, and at least its mentioned in her manual. Having the a/c turn on in a 'floor' setting makes no sense. Thanks for the reply.
