Trailer hitch and wiring harness

Ive found a hitch for my 3 so i can tow a small trailer behind it for my motorcycle(just sold my truck and need something for the time being) and am having a tough time locating a wiring harness for the trailer lights. Does anyone know where to get one, how much they cost or if they even exist yet?? Does anyone else tow anything with their 3? How does it do? Please dont turn this into a "just buy a truck thread"

Not a good idea

I live in Canada so I dont know what your manual says. But mine says do not tow anything with your Mazda 3. But who knows maybe the US version is different.

I was kinda wonderin' the same thing about the towing thing. I wouldn't mind towing a small trailer that could handle a dirt bike. Yeah yeah the manual says...

Anyone else have any thoughs?

Need4speed, I live in the US and bought a US version of the 3, and thats also what the manual says. But who ever even reads that crap... Its like 500 pages and half is something stupid like operating ur door lock, like thats very complicated. Or the best one yet, where your gas cap is located...

I think you would be fine towing something small, but it may overwork the breakes a bit, and since I did not try it myself than only do so at your own risk.

I hear ya

I understand the manual has alot of crap in it. And yes the manual says dont tow anything, so I called my dealership. All they would say is that the mazda 3 sport or the 4 door were not designed to tow. But what the heck if you dont have a truck I assume a smaller trailer would be ok. I really cant see a small trailer for bikes or dirtbikes hurting it.

Yeah when you type it kinda sounds all serious eh. lol. Typing doesnt doesnt compare to actually talking. So naaaa I aint so serious. There once was a man from nantucket......anyways....I wanna find a "thump stick" I dunno what else to call it. It pugs into your lighter and has a neon type light (pick your color) that thumps to your tunes. The neon is about 7inces long. Looks kinda cool. I saw it on Speedvision on NOPI tv a while back.

Its probably a cathobe tube with a sound activator. I have one inside my computer. ( A bit of computer tech.) Im sure you can buy it in any store, Curcuit City here, sell automotive lights and I know they have a ton of that sort of stuff.

Im sure they come in diffrent size but most are either 6 or 10 inch.

I had a hitch hooked up to my former P5 and I picked up a wiring harness from Canadian Tire. It was a Reese harness and it was a breeze to install. I'm sure PartSource also carries such a thing. We towed a small utility Trailer 4'x4', not overly heavy, had camping stuff in it.

With a your average 4 cylinder you could safely tow 1000 lbs without doing any damage to your tranny forget what the manual says. That is Mazda's way of getting out of a tranny issue if they find out you are towing. I never had a problem... the hitch was for a bike rack, yeah.
