Towing

I would lke to be able to tow a small sailboat with my Mazda 3. The owner's manual says not to tow anything. Does anyone have any experience with that? Presently, I am looking at a boat and trailer package weighing 1200 pounds, although I might be able to put some of that equipment into the car.

1200lbs? No way, IMO.
Imagine pulling the front four of an average NFL football team around.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

It's not really about can the car pull it. It's about can the car stop while pulling it. If its a short distance, less than 3 miles, and not on the freeway, I'd say go for it, but be prepared to void your warranty and shorten the lifespan of your car.

'3' Towing

Thanks for all your replys to my question about towing.
I previously owned a Protege (1992, 1800 cc) with which I towed a boat and trailer combinatin weighing 600 pounds. It posed no problems, except that the brakes felt like a Volvo ... or maybe an American car.
I was also a member of the Miata club, and members towed small trailers.
That is why I raised the question.
Thanks again.

it is NOT recommended at all. It's very possible to do it but it is not safe at all. I wouldn't want any of my loved ones in a car towing a 6K lb trailer when it's not designed for it.
