Which Steering wheel control to add cruise to 2012 Maza3 Sport?
I have been reading up on several threads on this forum and others that indicate that factory cruise can be added to a 2012 Mazda3 by adding the controls to the existing wheel or installing a wheel that already has these, and then having a dealer activate it. I am about to purchase a 2012 Mazda3 Sport that was not equipped with cruise, but has other options like steering wheel radio controls, PW and locks, power mirrors, etc. I have found a local dealer who sounds like they will be willing to give the programming a shot. Now I just need a wheel. I am a little confused because I have seen several part numbers tossed around for the factory buttons that can be installed in my existing wheel, so some clarification there would help.
Alternately, I have found two different wheels on eBay for reasonable money that should work. One simply has the radio controls on the left and the cruise buttons on the right. The other has controls for the information display on the right, and the cruise buttons are along the inside edge of the spokes on the wheel. I actually like that wheel better, because I think the buttons are in a place where they would be easier to activate. I have also read that it may be possible to swap in the display that will work with these buttons - at the very worst, they would just be non functional in the short run.
Can anyone tell me if the second wheel with the added display buttons will work the same way? My instinct is "yes", because those buttons probably use the same portion of the wiring harness even though they are in a different spot on the wheel, but it would be great if someone can confirm this.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I would say yes if the first wheel would work then the second one would too.
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 sport and the steering has the cruise control buttons on the inside of the wheel.
I would suggest to ask the two eBay sellers for pictures of the wiring harnesses and compare to make sure they are the same. Then compare to the ones you have on your car.
Hope that helps.
