Mazdaspeed is the American badge for Mazda performance cars. The Speed 3 comes with (among other things) a bigger 4 cylinder and a turbo making 263hp from the factory. It looks very simmilar to the 3 except for the 18 in. wheels, wider fenders, bigger tail pipe and slightly taller spoiler in back.

Thanks for the clarification.

To me the plain 3 sounds more logical in these strange economic times where more economical is better.

Why? It only cost around 5-6k more and gets almost the same mileage.

The mileage will depend on how you drive it... Anyone put anything other than 93 in the MS3/MPS? Any problems?

Speaking about the economy factor of the MS3, a few days ago I drove out to visit a cousin in PA from the Bronx, NY and my gas mileage was 28.9 miles per gallon. Not bad at all for a Speed3. My average speed for the trip was about 65. Used the turbo aspect of the car only once or twice...

MS3 fuel economy

The best I've done with my '08 MS3 is 29.1 on an all highway trip, the worst is 20.0 while driving like an idiot. In the cold winter months (very cold this year) in MN I have averaged around 22.5. Not much worse than I did with my '06 3s hatch and LOTS more fun.

By any chance are you using syn oil in your car? My run was the first time I made a long trip on a crankcase full of Royal Purple 5W-30 synthetic , wondering if the syn produced an increase in my gas milage.. Really didn't clock my milage prior to the addition of the Royal Purple.

Thanks

I'm using regular oil as the Mazda dealer gives free oil changes every 3750 miles for the first 50K. I'm going to switch to synthetic oil after that.
