Spare Switch Location Purpose
Spare Switch Location Purpose
On my new 07 Mazda 3 4 door, on the left lower dash there is a location for 4 switches. Only 1 location is used - for the dash light dimmer. I had the panel off the other day and see there is wiring pre installed for another 2 of the switches, and 1 completely blank (no wires).
Out of curiosity and for future considerations, does anyone know what the other 2 wired locations are pre wired for, and what the 4th blank location might be used for?

On the '07s the models equipped with DSC have a button there to disable it. There may be some wiring involved there. For some reason I through that there was another switch there for the GTs. Maybe the heated seat control or something having to do with the Xenons.
The Japanese market has a coin holder available you can swap out for one of the switch blanks, as well. This may be what the unwired one is for. I picked up two for toll roads from japanparts.com.

One of the switches that's prewired is for the HID leveling control, and like Andrew said the other is probably for the DSC. I think on pre-'07 models there's only one prewired one as DSC wasn't available till then.
I can confirm both the DSC-off switch and the HID leveling "dial"
The heated seat buttons are actually in the same panel as the cigarette lighter & passenger airbag indicator--the indicator is shifted to the center of the panel, and the 2 buttons are in its previous position. (This is making the purchase of a full dash trim kit something of a chore

I've got an 07 GT model, so 3 switches are populated - for the complete story they are as follows. Interior light dimmer, headlight level switch, and DSC button are the 3. One of these days i'll have to see if I can add another switch in place of the false switch plate for something and use the space
