808_Dragon,

How did you fix the noise in the door? I have the exact problem...everytime the music is anywhere near loud, a light rattle comes from inside the driver side door with the bass. Would love to be able to get rid of it.

Cool

Mikeg

I shoved some small foam things between the metal part of the door and the plastic part, and didn't tighten the bolt back all the way, it just started to make some noise again, but only when the window is up, before I did that it made noise all the time, but it doesn't make noise all the time though, it's just weird.

Danielle, the guy/gal doing your carpet shouldn't be "greasy" - if she is, take it to another place. It shouldn't hurt to look around at the cleanliness and demeanor of the staff ... I don't expect a car shop to be eat-off-the-floor-clean - but if they are working on the interior - I do expect them to NOT soil the seats and they usually use those paper floor mats....

I have had this problem ever since i got my hatchback...the gas mileage sucks...and I can't figure out why. I do mostly city driving, with some highway, but most of the city miles are short trips. While I know this results in lower gas mileage, mine seems a little too low. I defintely do not drive the car hard, and I think I have even been extra easy the last few months just to see if the mileage would improve. I have been averaging 18 mpg. I have brought it to the dealer to get checked out and they only hooked it up to the computer which said there was nothing wrong. Could something be wrong, maybe a factory defect of some sort? Or can the mileage really be as poor as it has been. I could get better mileage with my mother's gas guzzling minivan... Any suggestions?

Mike, that does seem low. I'd do some basic checking and then go on a highway trip
for a 150 miles or more, carefully filling/topping off just before and after and caculate the
highway mileage.

Things to check:

Tire inflation.
Car rolls easily on level hard pavement, brakes aren't binding.

On the test trip.
Windows closed, drive 50-65 miles/hour. Stay in high gear.

My 5 speed hatch gets 28 or 29 mpg on my normal commute, which is about 15 miles on highway and 5 miles on local roads. My old Corolla got 33 mpg. So I'm a little disappointed (you'd think 11 years of technology would help!)
but the Mazda 3 does have more power and is heavier.

To MikeG

MikeG, When I got my hatchback it seemed like the gas mileage sucked too. I'd drive a couple trips back and forth to work (total of about 15 miles), one 60 mile trip to town and back and the gas would be gone it seemed like. I think it started improving when I got my new fuel pump. Also if you read the threads on here, you might see that lots of people's gas caps have been replaced. Maybe yours needs to be replaced. I do know that gas always goes faster once it's past the half full line, just because it's not measured properly-no matter what car. Hope this helps.

I actually had my fuel cap replaced already a few weeks ago. Was your CEL on when you got the fuel pump replaced? I am due for an oil change soon, so i figured I would have them check it out again. Also figured I would take it to my mechanic and have him check everything out.

Door Moldings

Ok this is weird. My Mazda 3/5 has 2,700 miles so it's new, basically. My son had trouble opening the driver's side passenger last week. I got out and saw that the door molding on his door had wedged under the driver's door molding actually bending the door panel in on the edge under the molding. The driver's side passenger molding also came loose on the front edge. Shoot, this is a new car and it inflicted a dent on itself! My dealer has been cool though, they realized that the molding was placed a bit too forward on the rear door and will replace the moding and fix the dent. Any other QC problems with body work out there?

uh i think your son dented it and hes afraid to tell you. or someone dented it in the parking lot when your car was parked.

With approximately 760 miles on my 3, my engine light has come on. The car runs fine, fuel mileage is very good. Local dealer is booked up so I'm taking it to my purchase dealer tomorrow about 80 miles from home. I'll update on diagnosis.

Gas cap?? I'll see what they say.

personally, if it's just the idiot light and everything is looking, smelling, going, stopping well - I'd make an appointment and not drive the extra distance for a frigging fuel cap or other little doodah.

Yeah, but the local told me weeks. I'd rather get the little sucker checked out just in case. It is brand new after all.

I seriously doubt they could be that backed up but if they are, I'd probably rather avoid them anyway. I do have a closer dealer than my purchase dealer, though, so I may give them a ring.

Of course 80 miles isn't bad considering I almost bought a MINI and their closest dealer is farther than that...I wouldn't have a choice if I had gotten that car.

Angry 2 problems

i purchased my mazda 3s 5 door in july. im having two problems with it. one is that i am not getting good gas mileage at all. on a full tank i get 270 miles and then my gas light turns on. this has been that way since ive had the car. i have about 3,000 miles on it. the second is this really bad squeeking of my brakes i get when i put the car in reverse. it sounds horrible. if anyone is having the same problems or has had this problem..please let me know. do you think i should bring my car back to the dealer? anyone with any help would be great. thanx.

Check Engine Light?

If you have a Check Engine Light (CEL) I'd start with the most simple and obvious thing, the gas cap. If you don't completely tighten the gas cap it will trigger a CEL. Simple way to check this is to tighten the gas cap a reset the ECU. You can reset the ECU by taking off the negative battery cable and pressing on the brake for 10 seconds. If the CEL does not come back, problem solved. If the CEL comes back right away take it to the dealer.

You would not believe how much the dealers make on this kind of thing. They always make up some BS "feel good" answer for the customer so they can collect the $85 dignostic fee on you. It gets real funny the second time the same person comes in with the same problem.
