Thumbs up Platinum Shield Protection Package! Keep your factory shine!

I just had my Platinum Shield Automotive Protection Package done on my 2003.5 Sunlight Silver MP5 SE.

Everyone that reads the forum posts knows that the manufactures clear coats lack quality and durability.

This is what I got from my authorized Mazda dealer for $900 CND. Well worth the money! If you want your new MP5 looking like new for years to come and hold re-sale value, this is a must have!

The Package I got as follows:
1. Paint Protection - Sheilds your paint system from fading and excessive oxidation. Protects against damaging acid rain. Repels ultra-violet rays, Prevents surface corrosion, and never have to wax your vechicle. Keeps that new car shine. Warrenty 5yrs.

The clear coat finish on yor vehicle is actually quite uneven. These peaks and valleys are where dirt, salt, and moisture become embeded. Left untreated, this will dull and eventualy ruin your factory shine. Treated your paint system will be sealed, smoother and resistant to these dangers.

2. Fabric/Leather Protection - Stops stains. Easy clean up-even coffee, orange juice, or pop. Leather protection conditions and preserves leather and protects vinyl and plastics too. Protects leather from cracking, hardening, and color fading. The leather conditioning is worth it! Turned the dull black leather into a darker more rich color, looks like new leather was put in. Warrenty 5yrs.

3. Rust Protection - Seals out rust in doors, tailgates, trunk lids, fenders, quarter panels and hood. Salt, humidity, and acidity attacks spot welds between panels where galvanizing is absents. Thinner sheet metal makes protection more important. Clean, non-toxic and odor free. Coats metals to keep moisture away. Warrenty 10yrs.

Spot welds diminish the galvanizing. Water on bare metal causes rust. This product flows into the cavities between the exterior and interior panels to keep water away.

4. Undercoat Protection - Creates a quieter ride. Insulates both heat and cold. Seals the undercarriage from the adverse effects of road salt, gravel, and dirt. Prevents corrosion. *Will not crack or peel under any climate condition.* Warenty 10 yrs.

I got the dealer ship to put paint protection on my Alloy factory rims. Now they are protected from the elements, and I don't have to change rims in the winter. Water beads off the entire car now!

Ask your Mazda dealer for more information!

Or check out these links to the product!

I gotta say this sorta sounded like spam to me as well.

Anyways here is my 2 cents.

I would not spend the $900 to do all that work, and here is why.

1. Paint Sealant: Mazda puts good quality paint on their cars, and if you wax once or twice a year you won't need to do this. My girlfriend got the sealant and never waxes....I didn't get the sealant and I wax once or twice a year. Well in the past three years..my paint job has held up much better. We have the same protégé, the same year, and the same color. I know...talk about corny.

2. Fabric leather protection can be done by yourself. Go to Wal-Mart and buy a $10 can of 3M Scotch Guard, and put two coats on the fabric in the car and trunk. They sell the stuff at Superstore as well. My dealership wanted $300 just to do this..yeah right. For leather use leather protectant for any leather jacket. I used the can that came with my jacket on my dads car leather, and it worked like a charm...cost I figure was like $5 of the can. I figured the jacket protector works on leather that sees way worse than the interior of a car, so why not. I am glad I did.

3. Rust protection: manufactures today do a good job of designing the car with materials that are rust resistant. If you really want to rust proof, get this done for $100 at any rust proofing place. Or do what I do....when I wash the car I wash the underside and then give it the wax spray option. Did this on my old car, and after 10 years there was not one trace of rust on the underside, and there was never any rust proofing put in that car. Key to rust protection is keeping your car clean.

4. Undercoat protection: seen this on many cars....doesn't really dampen the sound that much, from what I noticed. Better off spending this money on quieter tires. If you really want an undercoat you can buy a can of tar spray and coat the inside of your wheel wells. I did this, and I think my car is quieter than what the undercoating would do, and I only spent $12 for a can.

Moral of the story...why pay $900 when you don't have to. Dealerships push this stuff cause it has huge profit margins. When you buy a car, please make sure you are getting good value for your $$$. The $300 Scotch Guarding that uses a $10 can and about 20 minutes of time had the to be the biggest scam I have ever seen a dealership sell. The sad thing is that they sell it to so many people who don't know any better.

Power to the protege people!
